  1. and having marched in 89 I would prefer they leave new world alone. although having seen how they revamped spartacus.....
  2. would love to hear JD do a dark brooding arrangement of 1812
  3. On tour one summer, we were in Jersey and had some down time at the show site so several of us walked over to watch the end of Cadets rehearsal. We watched as Sylvester lined the corps up on the 50 and had a kid walk behind him with a garbage can. He took the first kids dot book, leafed thru it, then threw it in the garbage can. Moved to the next kid, same deal. and so on and so on
  4. I remember that. I also remember several of the vet sops "motivating" the kid who shall remain nameless to learn it overnight. I had a long running battle with Bob Smith in my 5 years at Regiment (which Bob NEVER won) The guy was a fountain of quotable hilarity. SOunds like to scored a copy of the quote book from 90. I still have the original in my closet
  5. I am sure I am not the first to say this but.... Bob Smith... That pretty much says it all
  6. I remember on the first day of tour in 1990 our bus broke down in the cornfields somewhere right in front of a farmhouse. The other busses went on as we weren't far from Rockford and another bus was coming, but the whole bus sat in a big circle and played duck duck goose for like an hour LOL
  7. I remember that rain out in 89 LOL My best rain memory was Regiment in 96. In madison, just after we got the corps on the field a torrential downpour started. They asked if we wanted to pull the corps off the field and our director simply said.. "let em go" The corps performed a great show in insanely bad conditions the left the field. I know alot of people remember that one
  8. wow, have to with Cadets on this. Their "identity" for me are the shows they did from 83-96. They couldn't be further from that right now
  9. I taught with Mac back in 94 n 95. He's a great guy. I am sure he is moving on to bigger n better things
  10. The big thing here is Regiment has always depended on the brass. The drill is written to be effective and executable. It doesn't matter how "crazy" the drill is if the kids can't execute it, or if it hurts the musical performance. Regiments drill has always been good and effective and executable without hurting the music program.
  11. I have to go with Arrowhead. What a great stadium. TONS of parking and warm up areas and great acoustics for drum corps. also KC is a great town.
  12. So after this years finals I got to thinking.... Has a corps, other than Regiment, come from behind to win DCI? In 96 Regiment went from 4th in qrtrs to 3rd in semis to tie for the win. this year its was 3,2,1 I seem to recall SCV winning prelims one year and losing finals.
  13. Actually my favorite Star show ever was the 85 show
  14. Hey Nick, I am not at UGA (I am 39 after all) but I have several of my squash players who go there. I will make inquiries.
  15. as a member: 86-well nothing much memorable about Regiment that year LOL except drinking the beer garden in Montreal dry with 27 on our free day :) 87-Tieing Cadets for the title at DCI Canada, Winning the US Open when it still meant something, finishing 3rd at prelims even though we bombed at finals 88-mediocre but fun year, loved the ensemble part of our closer 89-going undefeated most of the season, playing with the KC orchestra, our finals run. winning the final drilldown :) on the lighter side, our batman battle with Madison to see who could get the most batman crap on the field at retreat. ended when Spaz got a dead bat in a ziploc onto the field. 90-loved bacchanale As an instructor 92 spirit- had fun, but nothing mkuch memorable 94 Nite Express - probably my most fun summer ever. what a great bunch of kids. finishing 2nd at Div II finals 95 Blue Knights - those #### DOTS! 96 Regiment - Being a part of Regiments first title
  16. I have known Eric Johnson (who I believe started or was a partner in starting IP) for more than 15 years and he has always been psycho about quality. I would recommend their products based on nothing more than knowing him.
  17. A Cellophone LOL anyone who marched Regiment in the mid 80s knows what I'm talking about!
  18. one more "moment" in 87, winning the US Open when it still really meant something
  19. Alvin, If you would like the sign, you are welcome to it. I wouldn't mind passing it along to someone I know loves the corps as much as you do. Just have to figure out how you'll get it from Atlanta to where you are LOL SUTA
  20. Hey Alvin, How ya been? Yea, the sign was in the dumpster next to roosevelt after the first or second camp in 90 Couldn't believe they would trash a piece of the corps history like that (and thought it would look cool in my dorm room LOL)
  21. LOL I STILL have a pair of those pants
  22. It was actually the design on our Baritone line T-shirts that year. I think a guy named Sean designed it. I just totally ripped it off, more or less
  23. 1- Regiment obviously 2-Blue Devils 3-Cadets until the mid 90s, hopefully they'll get back to that 4-Madison, especially the mid 90s, what great hornlines
  24. also, its not unusual for major staff changes to be made the week after finals. that way the corps can get on with finding someone new, and the staff member has the entire off season to find a new corps. so nothing unusual about the timing
