  1. Why hello, Mr. Logic Fallacy. Fancy seeing you here again on DCP.
  2. You might want to go back and read The Onion to understand how satire works. This had the potential (the cage fighting comment comes to mind...), but in the end, mostly came off as more complaining. Try again.
  3. I'm guessing you've never judged in a marching circuit before. Have you had the concept of "the value of a tenth" explained in detail? It's something that would be very valuable in terms of understanding these scores and how to interpret them beyond simple numbers. It's not "slotting." It's essentially a statement as to how much better BK is than Crossmen in that particular caption that night, with a 1.5 difference meaning something very specific. This thread title needs changed, or deleted. "Ultimate Slotter." Jesus. DCP, is this the kind of un-educated topic creation we need going on here?
  4. The word "everyone" was used in a hyperbolic manner meaning "many." BRASSO--is English your second or third language? I would think a native speaker wouldn't take a statement like that literally unless he or she just wanted to argue for the fun of it. MCM--good luck with that insomnia, sir. Nice research.
  5. You didn't offend me at all. I just want to see some good come out of this because I'm totally behind your overall point. DCPers need to realize how they come across. Best of luck!
  6. You lost me at "the disrespect that DCI and the eastern-based corps show to fans and corps west of the Mississippi pisses me off." This is a worthwhile topic that can (and should) spur some thoughtful discussion. I'd love to see more corps go West. You've got a great cause here. But for the love of god, the tone is just such a turn-off to said cause. We, as a community, need to realize how we can come across when discussing issues we're passionate about. Ideally, we'd do what we can to avoid sounding like whiny d-bags and more like intelligent people trying to affect some meaningful change. The soapboxing hasn't led to a whole lot over the years, eh?
  7. Take THAT you dirty dead horse!! And THAT!!! Someone kindly take the needle off of this broken record.
  8. Even though it sounds simple, this is a really good point. Who was the last group to go from the lower ranks of Open Class/Div II & III to finalist, the Blue Stars? Maybe that's a case study worth opening. I've only worked with a couple BOA finalist schools, but if they're remotely representative of the rest, corps like Pioneer definitely have a big stigma attached to them (Pio in particular). With that as a bit of a stumbling block in terms of recruitment, etc., what can the corps do that would push things in a more positive direction in terms of perception?
  9. Mankato might be the loudest stadium in the tour rotation. LOVE that show.
  10. zigzigZAG (regarding your earlier posts): You might want to do some research into the differences between correlation and causation. I guarantee you'll either change your tune, or keep your current mode of thought, thus indicating to the DCP community that you didn't properly grasp the difference between those two concepts. Eliminating basic logic fallacies will ultimately make this board a better place for discussion for all of us. :)
  11. Blue Stars show was quite... moving. Amirite?
  12. haaaahahahaha I LOVE that there are finally enough people to start ganging up on the dinos. Too many brilliant posts to even quote. Go volunteer and spend some time with these kids. Drum corps is NOT ABOUT YOU.
  13. "Ow, ow. Stop it" -Dead Horse Oh, and watch Bluecoats this year for electronics done right.
  14. Watch Bluecoats. That's wonderful you feel that way. Care to list the successful shows you've designed in the last few years, whether DCI, WGI or marching band? "Little effect?" Seen the Blue Devils this year and their moving stage parts?
  15. So what you're saying essentially is that difficulty mostly matters only if there's payoff? I would totally agree (and having been to a solid chunk of critiques, I would bet the judging community does as well).
  16. Yep, it's a cathartic experience, and one that makes me appreciate my kids in the activity much more.
  17. There are more ways than just that to generate effect. Ever watch a Cavaliers show during the Gaines era?
  18. Summer is long and corps rehearse more efficiently now, with five-week move-ins to boot. That time isn't valuable; it's a drop in a very large bucket.
