  1. Watch out for BD to take the Lamont Sanford trophy. The Ott? anyone but midrangy long notes and a few simple double tongue flourishes always in the same stupid key with NO complex chord structures.
  2. Clara was the plan all along though. I wonder what is up this year.
  3. Don't beat your kids up. Let them rest some times. instead of cramming for the test go see a movie before. You can practice practice practice and you might beat them but in the long run They win because they have fun and practice smart.
  4. It is a whole different mind set. that really is all there is to it. Don't think about it. Do it.
  5. The Mandarins in the rain was some excellent footage flo. It really felt live. Good job.
  6. yes the drum corps idiom has gotten me to research music and art styles. Thanks to corps like SCV and PR I really explored classical and contemporary music.
  7. I still think BD can win percussion and have been winning guard.
  8. I pull many an entire day at Mars. Watching the process is very interesting.
  9. I really do not see them catching SCV. I called it last year and stand on my prediction. BD can win guard and percussion if they clean the snare break. Their drum book is other worldly and in a class of it's own. They have to be clean though. SCV is winning percussion because their parts are easy to read fit the music and are clean. If BD can clean their line it's over. I think SCV has the best brass without question. I simply can not understand how CC is winning brass. They are really not playing much at all. It's drum corps. it's supposed to be amazing stuff. otherwise it's just band.
  10. I think BD at least took one sub caption in percussion and moved up a spot in brass. SCV clearly won but I feel like BD just got a tenth closer. I can not see how Mandarins are not beating PR. This top 3 is my favorite in many many years.
  11. I think their horns sound best in person. I can make out each instrument. I also think they have the best sound system and come across best on Flo which has pretty much always had good sound.
  12. Darn we missed your dramatic I'll never post here again thread. I love those. :D
  13. I agree with that! I remember when the top corps were called open class.
  14. People often knock the snare sound but they do sound a lot better now. Most of the timbre comes from the BD style of tightening the drums a lot. I tried some old school SCV ideas friends told me about by loosening the 4 tension rods closest to the snares and not cranking the top head so high and it sounds much better. (SCV really does have the best sounding snares IMO) I want to know from anyone who has actually played or at least sat in the arc them what their opinion is of them. flame away... I mean comment freely.
  15. I know very little about brass instruments. I appreciate good brass sound but the screen name should have been a tip off. lol They did just come out so I can see problems like with the tenors sounding too brittle and then they inserted wood veneer and they sound great now I think. I really am interested and I am sure others are what brass players opinions are on these new horns.
  16. You are not kidding! The West Open Championships was great. I am seeing some real good corps these days. Two especially are Gold and Battalion. The battery and FE I really liked a lot was Vessel and of course Big C broke 49 this year! At the end of SCVC (who is sounding great this year) Mr. Frank Dorttie came up and talked about how he thinks these new open corps sound about the same as 70's A corps did. always nice to see Mr. Frank.
  17. I have been seeing a lot of comments about the System Blue horns. I have no opinion one way or the other but am curious why so much negative talk about them and do people have positive feelings towards them? I have seen people suggest that it is because of the instruments that they are scoring so low. I wonder if it's just not other lines playing better? I do know they have a lot of rookies and some friends said the book they are playing now is perhaps the hardest ever. I can definitely see that in the opener. That is some difficult stuff to follow much less play.
  18. Their shots are hand held with regular cameras. you can see the rolling shutter when they pan side to side. They have no professional crew it's a bunch of amateurs like all corporate jobs are now days. welcome to the gig economy.
  19. Nobody likes a snitch. you know who you are little girl. it's on

  20. congrats Vanguard for hitting 90 first. the played like they were hungry. What? I donated
  21. Any of the mic'd performers when done correctly sound good. However most are not done correctly. BD has an amazing sound system that is even better this year. "They do it better than anyone else" "More precise, More accurate, and deadly performers in a championship" <--------name the quote
