  1. I don't mean to continue the thread derailment, but V, you made my night. Best post of the month!
  2. Mr. Boo--that is hilarious. It's funny because it's true.
  3. Brian, a few things for your consideration: You're right, there is no "home field." I don't think the only real way to define a corps' location is by the place it rehearses. I think it's fairer to define a corps' location by the state it's incorporated in, or the state from which the organization is run. (Did you know DCI is a Wisconsin non-profit? Weird) In any case, the name isn't misleading any more than the Boston Red Sox name is misleading. On that, I agree with Craiga. If Brandt Crocker said, "on the field, 150 Crusaders from Boston, MA," well that would be a different story. I maintain that when saying the Boston Crusaders are "from" Boston, it is referencing the organization. 67 years of history, *from* Boston. You can bet the fact that the other Top 12 corps were slightly more national-market savvy when they one by one dropped their city affiliation from their proper names bothers BAC. They were/are late to that party, and now it's probably too late. Now, while you can colloquially reference "Boston" or "Crusaders" individually, I doubt the Crusaders will ever be able to drop the "Boston" from their name. Would you be more comfortable if they changed the name to "The Crusaders" a la most recently "The Cadets?" I doubt BAC's prime constituency would appreciate that, wherever their members come from. Lastly, I think you certainly have a right to be miffed at the lack of corps in the Northeast--I personally think it's a direct result of the (relative) lack of abundance of hot band programs up there. Can you fault Boston (or Bluecoats, or Cavaliers, or Blue Stars, etc. etc. etc.) for going to Florida and Texas where there seems to be a larger pool of talent? And extending that logic one step further, should we call them the Texas Bluecoats and Texas Cavaliers? I don't think anybody is intending to be misleading here. Maybe a mixed message due to marketing concerns...I dunno--what do you think?
  4. Jared, did you send your emails yet? (Trying to un-hijack the thread)
  5. Yeah, I thought I read in a program book that Kevin Ford ended up writing their drill last year.
  6. +1 Those specific corps have style guidelines indicating that "The" is part of their name.
  7. Hey buddy, not trying to give you a hard time...what do you see on the sides of bass drums now?
  8. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this...at Hogwarts, Harry's house colors are Maroon and Gold...seems pretty cut and dry. I think that also makes Slytherin (green team) The Cavies...
  9. D'oh! I always forget that!!! my bad...I'll go and edit my original post to make myself look better. B)
  10. Interesting point Luke. DCI disagrees...sort of. They say that the DVD will feature the final eight performing corps from the Georgia Dome show. I guess the key words is "performing" as opposed to placing. http://www.dci.org/news/send.cfm?news_id=0...a2-dcb8f6da28f6
  11. Scores should be up in approximately an hour, since we all know that Jacksonville is in the Central Time Zone, not Eastern...
  12. CODI, you should open up a fishing supply store, because everyone would buy your bait...it's quite enticing. Even the smart fish bite...
  13. I think we're all missing the most important point--I didn't know John Mayer marched Madison!!! b**bs Sorry John, couldn't resist injecting a twinge of humour.
  14. Money is not the be-all end-all folks...as it was mentioned, look at Capital. Finishing a year in the black does not equal competitive success, and finishing in the red doesn't mean the corps isn't run well and can't be successful. The corps that everyone is "respectfully" not mentioning (thereby mentioning by exclusion) might be commended for functioning and succeeding with such an apparent deficit. Guidestar has been around for a while, but it's not a detailed look at how a corps operates, and I think it's somewhat irresponsible to throw around numbers that someone else could construe as fact when it's only one part of the picture. I get it, DCP is for speculation, but take a second and think about what you're posting and your expertise. Just my $.02 (the only number I'm qualified to throw around). :)
  15. That's funny, cuz I haven't seen much discussion ABOUT last night's show...was anyone there?
  16. Why does nobody like the DCP ones? You can compare captions there, too! They're very handy. Use them...they're at the top of the page!
  17. Agree--I listened to the Youtube version a few times, and it was mostly recognizable, and I'm not a huge Billy Joel fan by any stretch. I think people's reviews will almost always be tempered by what they want to see.
  18. Yeah, Boston's been pretty quiet so far...what about their Spring dealie last week? Craiga? Have you seen them? Anyone?
  19. Question...are they using any E-flats, or Piccs? Their trumpet sound leads me to believe they might be...anyone in the know?
  20. Corps no one is talking about or hyping finishing far higher than expected...
