  1. I'd say give some of the Open Class corps directors a call and see how that rule is working out for them. None of this would be going on if every corps felt they needed 70 plus horns every year.
  2. Mike, maybe you can do a story about the World Class corps that offer spots, 2-3 weeks prior to move in, to kids that have practiced all winter and into the spring with Open Class corps. Maybe a follow up with those directors and then the kids that left those Open Class corps to march with a big name corps. Now that would be some real news.
  3. You need to boycott correctly. No T shirts No Web Site Souvies No Merchandise Souvies No special "Lot" DVD's No individual G7 corps paid summer tour site Nothing outside the usual DCI stuff DCI makes nothing when the Blue Devils sell a bumper sticker or when the Cavies sell a License Plate holder or when the Cadets sell a pair of McNutt Drum Sticks. Buy the DCI stuff, yes the G7 will get thier portion as will all the other corps.
  4. You knew this was going to happen ... Facebook Page Against the G7 Funny thing, he says 3 Directors have contacted him to stop!
  5. I think George goes under YEAguy here on DCP. He has posted a few times, but dosen't get involved with DCP like other Directors do.
  6. Hey, you can get a taste of this on June 18 - Three "C" Double Play Season Opener, Allentown, Pa. Cadets, Crown and Cavies. Super reserved seats are on $53.00 and still available
  7. So what happens in 2 years when 1 or 2 of the G7 corps start to stink? Do they kick out those corps to make more money? If I may quote a fine movie titled "Airplaine....The Movie" Shanna, They knew what they were doing........I say.......Let'em crash! I'll support the FA17 and boycott the G7
  8. With all the chatter about 7 corps dropping out, I would think it would not take effect till the 2011 season. I can't see the 7 mentioned corps dropping out tomorrow. So you would have one last summer of 25 corps for now. If that were to happen.............
  9. Wondering why we have not seen Michael Boo or the DCI/DCP Liasion Bob Jacobs making any comments on this issue. Some people here have thier own inside info on this situation, all I know is, if what I have been told is true, this may be a major shake up and a new crossroad for this activity to either excel or fall flat on thier faces. Counting the hours till the offical press release..........
  10. IF, it's the 7 corps leaving, I say good bye to them. Let the remaining corps focus on the ENTIRE activity and build it to be better than ever.
  11. I'm in for the stick bag, lanyard combo.
  12. So if it is the "Super 7" corps out doing there own thing, crazy electronics, singing, dancing, magic tricks, poem readings and everything else, are we saying that the other 18 corps are going to fold up and die? How about those corps get together and break off from DCI and do thier own thing, another circuit maybe? Why do we have to think that the other corps can't function without DCI? Plus what happens when corps 6 and 7 start putting crappy shows on the field, then what? Does DCI promote one of the 13 other corps to take over??
  13. Another Bold Prediction, Michael Boo will come up with some funny one-liners this year
  14. I can see this on the field someday... Drum Lines of the Future
  15. So if 10 people show up in a month you won't take them?
  16. I remember when we would play, just to play..... Looks like it was handled poorly by both sides.
  17. A)The Only Way Micheal Boo would be involved was if someone in the press box was video recording it. B) If you wanted to get someone from DCI involved, if it was finals night, you would have to go to the press box and get someone out of thier choice seat to tell them to stop. C) DCI does have the policy of no recording, but is an usher making 10 bucks an hour going to tell you to stop? Better yet, would you listen to him? You did your best by keeping your mouth shut, how good of a picture is it going to be with a small hand held? Any Horn pop or drum lick will be drowned out with crowd noise too. See if you can find the hand held from Madison in 06 for the alumni corps, they are nothing but screaming. The best DCI policing I ever saw was in Bloomington in 08. They had a guy shadowing "Mr Inside the 40" Ron Gunn and they were not allowing him to scalp tickets.
  18. 2 years in a row and people are looking forward to the Cadets Show and Music. Interesting
  19. What makes you think that DCI is not going to have an All Age Division anyway? They have all the tools in place. They have been judging DCA corps for years at DCI shows. With the exception of a few "Elder" DCA corps, most directors are younger and are sick and tired of the politics within DCA. It's just a matter of time before DCI finally wants to admit that older folks have more money than DCI kids and they open the All Ages division.
  20. I hate turning this into a Hopkins thread, but I have to add this. If you ever get the chance to watch the DCI video from the mid 90's, I think it was the Brass Roots one. There is a round table discussion with Delucia, Hopkins and a few other directors and they talk about the way DCI changed the judging system from the early 80's into the years the Cadets made thier great run. Hopkins comes right out and admits that he designed his shows to reflect the way the system was at the time. Now do I think that if DCI changes the rules he wants, that means the Cadets will win more often, no, that is not what I am saying. Back in the day, there were still a lot of corps catching up to the Cadets and trying to do what they were doing, they were the leaders in the industry at the time. Today when DCI makes a rule change, the top 4-5 corps have already planned ahead to adapt to those changes so if the rules go into effect, they will be already ahead of the game.
  21. Two things 1) Sticking the Percussion Judge upstairs is just another Marching Band thing, or a USSBA thing. You can't tell me you can get the same feel from the Press Box at Giants Stadium, Allentown or the Rose Bowl like you can get from being on the field. I like the judge downstairs looking the kids and taking in the entire performance. The Judge can see the artistic impression from the performers. You can't read emotion from a SKYBOX. While I hate to point fingers at Hopkins, this just sounds like another item he wants to change to benefit his corps. Take a look at thier drum scores the past few years, they looked and sounded good, but there must have been something else going on, on the field to get those numbers 2) Mike Boo used the word "minutia"
  22. I think OnQ was part of that plan.....Give'em 5 years, you'll get a response by then.
