  1. well, we all know what assuming does now dont we? and btw, cadets 06 were just as classy as 2000. prove to me how using the adjectives "the most stupid, silly, cheesy, immature, insipid, classless, obnoxious, insulting show" is a valid statement and i will give you 1 million dollars.
  2. as far as i see it, sure i was-and still am- against the amped vocals, but i enjoyed the cadets 06 show because of the musicality of it all. could it have been done without the vocals, sure, but that wasnt what hoppy was going for. i still applauded at finals, just as everyone BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOD the bluecoats. and Hrothgar15, what exactly is it that you like so much about the cadets to support them with your signature yet bash them by saying the 06 show wasnt drum corps? its a fact that being involved in drum corps changes peoples lives, but it is my firm belief that unless you volunteer, march, or have something to do with any one of the individual organizations, you are just a fan. im not trying to bash the validity of some peoples statements of "your music saved/changed my life" because there are cases where this is a irrefutable truth. IMO drum corps is drum corps, and to prove that though i am against amped vocals, i still appreciate coprs that use them because if you look at my signature, i marched blue stars in 06. guess what we did for part of the season, we had narration. was i against it? yes, did it add to the show? of course. did i speak my mind and try to get it taken out? no, and i would never have done that. and one more thing Hrothgar15, you cannot say with certainty that people yelling things while you are performing wouldnt theoretically affect you because some situations are different than others. a college marching band performing at halftime of a football game is so much different when compared to drum corps because people are more intent on listening and watching a drum corps show than they are a football games. ive had things yelled at me while i was marching and it did affect my performance. positive yelling made me perform more for the people who were cheering me on, while the people yelling negative things made me perform harder than i could ever have imagined because i felt that there was something to prove. just my .02
  3. designed by the Troopers own Shannon Brown. He has designed some really cool stuff. there are computer backgrounds and tshirt designs that are amazing.
  4. already auditioned for Troopers but i were to go anywhere else, hypothetically speaking of course, it would be Cavies, Regiment, or Bluecoats.
  5. i second the motion. i like them french fried taters with mustard, mmmhmm.
  6. Mike Ottoes- Troopers Soprano and Mellophone (2 years sop, year mello, another 2 years sop)
  7. chad sexton also march in the railmen out of omaha. they folded in 95 i think.
  8. the tour makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. who has ever heard of two home shows?
  9. i have the question of all questions, what corps is going to fold in 2015?
  10. i must say this, after reading EVERY post i have come to the conclusion that if you saw your first show in 05 and youre talking about the 2000 show, you should probably think of a more valid point. ill be the first to admit that i started my drum corps career (being a fan) in 2003 and i marched Troopers in 2005. to say since marching in 05, drum corps is what i live for is a very good evaluation of my current situation because im only going to school so i have something to do after i age out and my summers arent taken up with 2 and 1/2 months of travel and rehearsal. though i have seen a VERY small number of shows dating before 2000, some of the shows that i have seen are not exactly what i would call innovative. examples of this are 92 VK, 89 Cadets, 91 Star, 70 top 5, and a few more that i cant recall at the current moment. i am a fan of every corps in existence or that has existed because of the fact that the people who marched there marched for reasons that people on the outside of the drumcorps world might not be able to comprehend. I respect each and every person in every corps however that does not mean i like every person. i have marched with some complete ***holes but i still respect them because they marched for the love of the activity. i sat through the Cadets 06 show out of respect. sure there were a lot of parts i didnt like (i.e. the overbearing singing) but the fact is there was musicianship in the show. anybody can go through and pick apart any particular show for reasons they didnt like it, but why do that? it would be too opinionated that people would give up reading. why are people attempting to change the path that history has already laid? sure i dont like the way amplification has been used in recent years, but i have a feeling that the ways amps can be used will be defined and so on. as much as i disagree with what Hopkins has done in the past 2 shows with the Zone, he still deserves respect for pushing the envelope as much as he has been doing. when it comes to what this thread is really about, i never lost love for the Cadets, or any other corps for that matter, however, there are shows i have not been too fond about and those would be 2005 and 2006, but both shows had an amazing amount of musicality so that part i had to go with.
  11. technically speaking its the LaCrosse Blue Stars Cadets, Inc. on the field. the (re)organization was after what i have been told was an IRS audit much like what Velvet Knights went through. thats just my .02 and what i know though.
  12. I graduated in 06 and marched Troopers before my senior year started and was the only person who marched corps but im bringing a couple of seniors and a sophomore to camps with me. im pretty sure the BD supports corps because in high school i was a percussionist and for the 06 season (after joining july 4th) i learned Baritone with the Blue Stars. if i can learn how to play Baritone in a matter of weeks, then im pretty sure that after showing him what is up, he was more into it than when i got back for my senior year after marching corps. man was my attitude horrible about marching band.
  13. i agree. there are going to be more people in attendance than i think anyone might anticipate. itll be bigger than if the corps would come back with G bugles.
  14. how about this........The Incredibles. thats a unique one. only 3 bands played the exact same off the shelf arrangement in nebraska for the 2005 marching season.
  15. The Blue Stars changed the last minute in the drill and the last 30-45 seconds of music for the better in 06 and it was solid the day before the atlanta regional.
  16. the Troopers arent being recreated per se, rather remastered like the star wars films. ok so that was a bad analogy. the Troopers restructuring is much like the Red Sox finally winning the Series after Decades of failures. HOWEVER, Brooklyn Dodgers is probably the MOST appropriate team.
  17. good call. my.02 however, i am glad Troopers is moving to Bb because i only picked up a baritone to play it back in July with the Blue Stars.
  18. ive already said this in another thread but dci should require as much, if not more, information about staff, admin, volunteers, and drivers. even if somebody goes on tour for 3 days as a volunteer their information should be obtained and kept on file, even after they are gone. if this is done and logs of volunteer work and everything is kept, if something goes wrong it can be pinpointed to where the problem originated.
  19. if youre gonna make something up in a reply to one of my posts please make it believeable and somewhat creative, please. i completely understand that my analogy may seem a bit harsh, but you have to look beyond just a social group. what happened in germany and the ussr is similar to what happened at CR. there was massive oppression and getting out of the situation must have been difficult, just like it would have been difficult to get out of one of the priorly mentioned nations during their reign of terror. does my analogy obtain merit this way, i believe so. lets hear it for explanation time. a) compared to the rest of the drum corps activity, CP was the harsh living conditions of the activity, from what we have all heard and read. and B) the conditions for the members may have been bad and whos fault is that, many peoples. but the fact that they PAID to go through that is just insane. something like that should never happen especially when its easy to forget that you pay in more than one way in this activity. as to the katrina tragedy, yes there was a series of unfortunate events. thats going to happen when the agencies setup to provide emergency care fail to do so immediately. one could say that the cavaliers were an emergency relief organization to CR in kansas and elsewhere simply because of the fact that they fed a corps that needed to eat, as we all do. if you actually read my post i blame no one. ive played the blame game and it gets people nowhere, the only time it works is when its blatantly obvious and then it needs no stating because it will then become redundant. much like saying ATM maching or PIN number. panties in a bunch, i think not. there are many members who deserve a refund for their summer even though their tour is over this season because of the *#&^ they went through, but just like if you sued every time you were out $1000 to a corps too much time would be spent and too much money used to try to get that $ back. really long story put into a couple of sentences. GO: CR goes through one heck of a summer including but not limited to, unattended injuries, lack of meals, and insufficient plans for housing sites. staff and volunteers spend their own money to feed/transport the corps because of a lack of access to corps funds. tour ends and kids can finally go somewhere they are probably going to be guaranteed at least 3 daily meals. dcp members become active in CR thread and here we are today.
  20. DISCLAIMER: i am not against any corps as an organization, performing ensemble, or rival on the competitive field. i am however against a corps being run incorrectly in correlation to Federal, state, and DCI Laws, By-laws, and governing rules. the folowing is personal opinion and in no way reflects the viewpoint of any particular corps. im not surprised that this is a really long thread. after talking to come CR members semifinals night, i came to the realization that they loved the activity called drum corps. the same CR members i talked to, told me various stories, many of which have already been posted, and came to the general concensus (individually not in a group setting) that when Fred showed up he was a godsend. looking into the situation with no bias towards the corps as an organization, staff, or members, what happened this past summer is a great mistake much like that of Nazi Germany, Socialist Russia, or even Regime controlled Iraq. Things that happen must be used as an example to learn from. as far as i know, corps are required to have copies of birth certificates on file for every member, along with various other types of information. this is a DCI requirement. in the big picture of things, DCI could also require information on file for every volunteer and staff member. this could also be linked to BOD. during the summer tour, it could be a FEDERAL LAW, and even might be, to have driver information on file in regards to copy of a CDL, evidence of drug tests, and a system in place to replace drivers who violate laws during tour. this isnt even hypothetical. its a bunch of things that must happen in order for the safety of not only the corps members, but staff, admin, and volunteers, to remain intact and survive a rather strenuous season. am i still unsure as to how a corps is run, yes. but i at least can realize that when something like cr's current position comes up, it makes one question some of the safeguards put in place by a governing body. DISCLAIMER: The preceding was brought to you by BryceH and no other person, group of people, or organization. if there are any concerns, legitimate or not, DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME BY EMAIL. i guarantee that all emails will recieve a reply.
  21. the thing with the Troopers is not a fact of having talent, it was proven when many members made finals corps in 2006. just to point everything out, there were members at Phantom, BD, Bluecoats, Boston, and BK, then making everything great, there were members in Blue Stars and Colts too. there were members all over the place, but having people make finalist corps kind of proves that the talent was there. the fact that we were using G horns and had a total of 85 members in quarterfinals set us back quite a bit. and after talking to mike ottoes and fred morris, everything is moving in the direction of setting everything up to become a consistent finalist corps yet again.
