  1. So, as far as the judge, I'm not sure I've seen the name before. Who is Michael Turner?
  2. I like it that Crown doesn't pigeon-hole themselves into one specific style or genre. It would only limit creativity and stifle innovation if they did. While you may come to expect some corps' to give similar performances year after year, with Crown, I always wonder, "what are they playing THIS year?"
  3. As everyone has mentioned, the stadium was very reverberant. I imagine the back curtain helped control the slapback echo, but they should have also done an acoustic ceiling as well. The Georgia Dome used to be the worst about echo until they put the fake ceiling up this year. The stadium sound wasn't so bad in the first section on the 40 yard line though. One thing I did notice were the poor stadium electronics. There were many times were wireless mics were dead, and other times when audio from the intermission videos would be scratchy. For such a venue, I would imagine they would have much more professional audio than that. Other than that, I don't like Indianapolis. There's not much to do in downtown save for the museums. There are also very few food/drink choices around the stadium. Basey's (across the street from the stadium) had extremely overpriced food and beer, and the waitstaff were astonishingly rude. Bloomington seemed to be a much better venue for finals, and I hope DCI will consider it again in future years.
  4. Definitely glad the "GO ___________!" yells have been subdued a little. It's not classy at all.
  5. To answer your question though: call the Crown Store. They would know.
  6. Agreed - the audio is pretty awful. It looks like video quality was definitely of higher importance. Has anyone listened to an APD to see if it was any better?
  7. It would take two and a half months to nail and clean all those licks.
  8. Back to the topic at hand: Where was this, if you don't mind sharing?
  9. I believe Crown does make standstill recordings, which they sell as a fundraiser.
  10. I agree with one poster in thinking that this was one of the weaker years of drum corps.
  11. Maybe because Phantom doesn't have any exposed brass runs to slip on? Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love Phantom's show, but there is a reason Crown is currently winning musicianship. They actually play musically.
  12. This is similar to the thread about Academy and Teal Sound using Jupiter horns. Dynasty hasn't really had a good reputation in the past, but when used by the right people, they can sound decent. My question is: why would you want to work that much harder to get a good sound out of lower quality equipment? Either Phantom must have really ticked off Pearl, or Dynasty must have paid them a boatload of money to switch sponsors, because as we've seen in this thread, it's definitely being viewed as a downgrade. Regardless what drums they hit though, PR has an amazing drumline and very good percussion staff, and I'm sure they will be contending for the title this year.
  13. I think Phantom's Dynasty tenors are pretty bad. Not unbearable, but not great. Dynasty is also not the greatest brand for keyboard instruments either. And the audio stuff...yeesh. Dynasty should stick to making one thing and making that well. Right now, they just have a lineup of a bunch of sub-par equipment.
  14. Yeah, not having a percussion and visual field judge would be pretty awful.
  15. I wish the fans would dress nicely as well - too often they're in a cut off and an old corps jacket. Sorry I had to make the comment!
  16. I think the Bluecoats drum line is at the top of their game. My roommate got ahold of their finals judge tape from last year, and ####. Clean as ####. They have the most meter changes out of all the drum lines I've heard in recent years.
  17. I don't think last year's placements have much weight. There was only a 0.8 point differential between the four corps in 4th-7th place. Also, I believe Crown was closer to 5th place (being only 0.025 points behind) than 7th place (0.1 points ahead). Too many people are willing to give up on Crown already, and the first show hasn't even happened yet. Personally, I'm ready to give up on SCV. The show last year was a snoozefest with no clear vision, and as you mentioned, the drumline is slipping into mediocrity.
  18. Blue Devils will score over 9000 the first night.
  19. I thought Red Pony and Appalachian Spring were Copland works?
  20. Agree. 94 Phantom is one of my all-time favorite shows. The brass was amazing.
  21. How do those Jupiter horns sound? By now, I'm sure they've figured out how to play them well, but does anyone have any comments on how it compares to what they've previously used, or how it compares to other corps?
  22. They should move it to Evansville. Everyone knows the Reitz Bowl is THE top venue for DCI. (/sarcasm)
  23. And accidental facemask is 5 yards.
