  1. Well it sure seems to have gotten you interested... I think its a great marketing idea. I believe when HALO 3 was announced all that they showed for a while was the logo (that game sold very well btw, I'm sure you knew that marketing pro). Wouldn't this be very similar to that? Regardless, I like what they have done with the show name, and I'm sure that they mean something by separating the 3 syllables of carnival. These people are professionals, if you think you can do better, do it. If not, wait for more information when they are ready to give it, and keep your misguided opinion to yourself. Yes DCP is for opinions, but what you said is just stupidity... IMHO
  2. This may have been released, but who's doing the alumni thing this year at finals? I know personally, I would love to see Star of Indiana alumni.
  3. I dont believe glassmen got 12th in a while... and as for last year, they were 10th, until finals, when they had a disappointing show. I saw their semi's and quarters and they were much better those nights then finals... I don't know what went on there, but I would assume it was a fluke (should move up with a really good show). I really doubt academy will do well... they really didn't have that strong of a show last year. I agree with madison however. They are going to make quite a statement. I don't see colts staying in finals unfortunately... had a decent show, but can they do it twice?
  4. I think cadets or phantom will win, spirit will fall out, colts will fall out (feel last year was a fluke), madison will be back (once again, last year was a fluke), and bluestars will come up. boston cru will drop a little, as will BK, and gmen will start making a comeback (i'm liking their staff, and their show concept).
  5. I've heard a few different things about that girl, from some people in the organization... lets just say she got injured.
  6. The only thing here that is "freaking stupid" is your attitude towards a traditional drum corps, who is just trying to stay with their roots. If you don't like pioneers bass heads, wonderful, that is your opinion. Theres a line between voicing your opinion and being an a**hole. You crossed that line.
  7. Agreed... that talk doesn't belong anywhere near an educational activity such as drum corps. You have manners... use them.
  8. As a marching member, I'm particularity happy for the probable free day the day after the Florida show that almost every corps will have...
  9. 150 tubas. no drum major. we don't need one. we can't see them half the time anyways. Realistically 20 trumpets 16 mellos 10 baris 12 euphs 16 tubas 9 snares 5 tenors 5 basses 5 plates 10 pit 2 DM 40 guard
  10. Its not just the people in the lot. I marched a lower top 12 corps this past year, and we played out warmups and whatnot, then finished up with out opening fanfare. We played it f'ing loud and with nads. After a show, we had to do encore with BD, and a few of the brass players told us that BD's brass staff stopped their hornline warmups, looked over at us, listened to us play, and turned back to the hornline and said, "wow! what a sound!". Don't know if that was entirely true, but it felt good. We knew everytime we played our fanfare in warmups, the crowd went nuts... and we loved that as much as we loved playing it on the field. To me, thats what playing in a good brass line is. Playing what you love, and what others love to hear.
  11. HEY! we almost beat the cowboys that one time, so we cant be that bad, lol
  12. I completely agree. I saw them a few weeks before finals, and I thought that their performance then was much better than finals.
  13. Unfortunately with that, there will be people who can go on forever in those situations... Whereas you can only march DCI for a max 10 maybe 11 years.
  14. That is awesome. I'm very glad that you are calling this year your last. For others, they want more, and this rule allows it. The fact that you want this to be your last year doesn't mean others cant wish for another season.
  15. My high school band director would allow us to put on DCI championship shows during band camp, and we would get ideas for visuals and whatnot. Almost everyone in my marching band (about 150-170 kids) knew what drum corps was and I believe 6 or 7 of us actually march currently.
  16. I agree, and obviously George Hopkins has a theory behind his deadline. And I do plan on getting on with my life. That would be when I get my degree in music, which hey, if the rule passes, it will be right after I age out. Funny how that works out.
  17. It does matter. This rule change will effect me, and I know that I'm going to use it. I'll still be in college because I'm a music major, and with the new 150 member rule, I think DCI is going to need more people to march. Many people stick with the smaller corps because it is their home corps. Eventually this rule will lead to stronger smaller corps, and stronger larger corps. There is nothing wrong with this rule, and it will probably be passed. I'm dearly sorry to everyone who marched before the 2008 season. However I don't think you should argue against this rule because I can almost guarantee that if you past generation of marchers were in this position, you would be really excited about the idea of another year possible. I feel youth isn't a certain number, but rather the way someone feels, and views themselves. If there are 22 year olds marching, DCI will still be a "youth" activity. And for the poster who previously said that DCI was for TEACHING KIDS instruments and discipline, I learned how to play my instrument in school, and I was taught discipline by my parents. Marching my years in DCI did neither. They only strengthened the foundation.
  18. Busted my bottom lip open during basics block last year, and still managed to play all the notes in the show that night, only to find my mouthpiece filled with blood at the end.
  19. Oh man... brass book = so many notes. It's gonna be alot of fun, I can tell you that. I hear the tuba line this year is going for the best in DCA...
