  1. I certainly understand both sides. Kind of like abortion.
  2. I personally think this is the last year they're going to do out there stuff, so they're doing it as crazy as can be. I could very easily be wrong though.
  3. Thank you very much for setting the record straight. It's good you posted this. The only problem I really had from what I read is the "I march corps" comment. I wasn't even there, so I can't attest to the context or if it did even happen. But thanks again. Also, you posted as I was typing my post, sorry for missing that.
  4. I wouldn't exactly call those tickets. Members with wristbands have a lower priority than those who purchased tickets. They're technically not supposed to sit in the middle, more desirable seats I believe. But they end up taking whatever seats are available. I know in 2009, I saw DCI finals about 20 rows up on the 50 with a wristband. We politely moved the one time a group came in and we were in their seats. We moved up a row, and nobody came to take those seats. Awesome, free finals seats! But anyway, paying attendees come first.
  5. It does sound pretty bad. Especially the part where they said "we march corps", like they're better than everyone else. In my opinion, they deserve to be embarrassed about that. Obviously the corps didn't get "the talk" about being classy. Either that, or those members just didn't care.
  6. I'm part of the 10% then. I think it makes the transition a lot smoother. As for the audience not giving anything, i disagree. They weren't the most rambunctious crowd, but definitely not quiet. At least where I was sitting.
  7. I wouldn't say it was no reason at all. I was in the front row right behind the people tabulating scores. I don't know their method, but they let us know as soon as it was ready. Did take a while though, no arguing that.
  8. I feel like I was the only one to do the Vanguard yell tonight!
  9. The audience was slow to realize that the show was done, and I almost didn't know either, just because I didn't know that there was a new ending. Once people know, the crowd will be on it's feet at the appropriate time. Go SCV.
  10. I believe either one works fine. There's sopranos in a choir, but the fact that they might switch to a different key for a different piece won't lead them to be called anything else. Pretty much the same thing with contrabass. I've also heard mellos be called altos in the drum corps season, it's just one of the more rare ones. Like someone else said, it's all tomato tomahto.
  11. That's the great thing about drum corps people. They don't just walk by and not put themselves in potential danger, which to me, is despicable if you see somebody else in danger like that.
  12. Thanks for posting. I'll be watching the show, and beyond excited!
  13. As sad and terrible as it is that we have anyone like this in the world, at least it's very rare for this kind of thing to happen. I don't feel less safe attending any public event, but it's still sick and horrible what happened.
  14. The audio being louder or softer doesn't really have much to do with how high quality it is. I understand the volume limit on computers is sometimes too low though. Double check the video player for a volume slider. If there isn't one or it's all the way up, unfortunately it probably can't get any louder without third party software. I have had a few issues with it not being loud enough on the FN.
  15. Bluecoats did a flashmob in 2010 in Aha!. But it really is the perfect setup to make them really really good.
  16. I saw them live in Stanford. I enjoyed it. But after seeing some of the changes on the Fan Network from Walnut, I think this is my favorite show this year. Awesome!!! Top to bottom.
  17. "Fan Network Space VOD"? Is that some sort of angle from space? Wow, they're certainly raising the budget this year.
  18. No matter what, unless the ensemble is right behind the pit, the drum major will always feel ahead to a certain extent. If he's trying to go off of what he's listening to, the tempo will keep slowing down. Usually a drum major goes off of the center snare's feet, if they're moving. I think you don't need a drum major. It's more helpful when you don't know what the drumline is playing compared to your parts. But that would usually only happen after learning new parts. I think even then, you can get by with a doctor.
  19. From dci.org Line-up is in reverse order of appearance. Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA Phantom Regiment - Rockford, IL Boston Crusaders - Boston, MA Pacific Crest - Diamond Bar, CA Vanguard Cadets - Santa Clara, CA Blue Devils B - Concord, CA Don't know exact times though. But I'm going to the show!
  20. This may not be my favorite, but it's definitely way up there. First one that comes to mind. First show with the Bluecoats 2010. After all of the work during spring training, the first show made it all pay off. The crowd was amazing! We got at least 3 standing ovations that night. So. Awesome. San Antonio was definitely a good one too.
  21. This is all this guy posts on YouTube. I guarantee you this is the only kind of stuff he will post here. Always disrespectful and trying to start things. I also saw that he favorited a Fred video on YouTube, so it's a safe bet to say he's no older than 15. I'm not saying this with the intent to make fun of him, but it's kind of an added bonus.
  22. They definitely won't drop out of the top 8. I just can't see that happening. I really think the right changes can bring that show to life, and I'm sure things will be added as well. I remember Cavies didn't do too well in 2010 early season. They ended up second in finals. They could possibly drop to 5th in my opinion, but anything can happen in DCI. There's always some sort of surprise.
  23. Yes, I believe that's correct. You're talking about videos, aren't you? I have another question though. Aren't all of the drumline videos on YouTube technically not infringing on copyright? I know most corps don't really care, but as far as I know, the drumline parts are written to go along with the show music, which is usually a re-arrangement of copyrighted music. That means, for the most part, there's no direct connection between the drumline parts and any copyrighted material (unless those parts themselves are copyrighted, which I doubt). Can someone tell me if what I'm saying is correct, or even making sense?
  24. I don't think you can really count food costs, cause the members need to eat regardless of where they are. But I believe the $14k number. Now that's generosity.
  25. They aren't method acting, they're just acting. Imagine you can only see one show a year. Shows are generally designed to make sense off of one read. They don't always make sense after just once, but I think that's what they go for. Then they move off to the next audience and do the same thing again. Theoretically, very few people (besides those of us on DCP) have actually seen the show already, so it works. The unpredictability is for the audience and judges, not for the performers and staff. Besides, it's not a judge's job to do something that goes along with the theme of the show. They aren't a performer or on staff! Good thoughts though. :)
