  1. This has me thinking. Is this WHY a mid-season rewrite could possibly make a DRAMATIC difference?
  2. Hence...That is WHY I would be most happy with a BLIND draw at every show. You never know who will be on 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. Maybe more people would arrive at beginning a show then?
  3. Well then we can all put to rest Bruckner8's theory on "competitive inertia" once and for all.
  4. Is there a chance for all to be over 90? IMO yes anything is possible in any given year. As far as this year it is a real good possibility given the current scoring IMO. I don't necessarily think that top score has to be over 99.5. Anything is possible score wise, but I have a problem when scores are only given to reflect a certain spread from the other groups and not what they actually earned for a given performance. Duhh..isn't this what happens now anyways liahona? I can only speak for the groups I've seen this year...but i think many of them are a cut above last year at this same time. The competition is really being just that...very competitive making for an exciting season instead of just nothing but predictable results.
  5. Your post for some reason got me thinking about the 92 Crossmen at Allentown. One of the loudest corps to this day that I recall I ever heard at that venue. I didn't know drum corps much earlier than late eighties so I can't comment on that time period, but just from my own perspective... I hope I didn't hijack this thread on peaking... Well actually I think I can add an honorable mention on the peeking thing. In 1990, the Boston Crusaders I feel peeked at pre-lims (back then when there was preliminaries before quarters). We were sitting 10th based on that show and by Friday night we fished 15th and are score was flat.
  6. Nice job Crown!!!! WTG BAC closed that gap back up! I am really interested in the recap now...
  7. I'm a believer in quality...noyt quantity..so you are doing ok Go BlOO!!
  8. Not sure that I want to get caught up in concept debates...but in all fairness I did open that door with my comment on Crown...BUT I guess if you need to EXPLAIN it then it was not all that good in the first place... I will stick with what I enjoy most and that is being entertained(of course everyone has their own definition of this)...
  9. You may be right...Last season I didn't get to see anyone in the early season...so this may have skewed my view for this years stuff. I'll perhaps wait on my own judgment till later in the season.
  10. Unfortunately I don't think this is going to do it for me this year...I was just not all that impressed with the show concept (not how well it is being performed)when I saw them at the Ewing show. I am not a Crown basher either. I am so happy for crown's success these last few years.
  11. I have to agree with you on this. Over the years KG has definitely given respect where it is due for all corps. In the defense of the person that wrote the piece maybe they didn't have the journalism experience that those like Kevin and others have shown us to know and respect.
  12. I think it's great that people like to name drop. BUT for those not in the know (like myself) it would be cool to link some info about their bio/accomplishments and/or other groups they worked with previously... so that the name drop means something to those that are not in that loop. I guess I could do a search in the forums if I didn't want to be lazy. AND if the person is a drum corps legend or God...well I'm sorry I never heard of them.
  13. I think the writers SHOULD tell more about ALL the corps. Guess the author didn't consider the "lasting impression" corps all that newsworthy. This has been this way for years and I for one think it is a shame. I don't think anything can be done accept maybe writing a letter to the author who wrote the piece and speak how you feel about it. Hopefully I did not miss your point...
  14. awwwww... I just listened to it...awesome...I'll can't wait till Bridgeport show Monday!
  15. A key ingredient I think is great leadership. Go stars!
  16. Pretty much a no-brainer here...they get PAID...I actually liked marching in parades myself...It also allows corps to play for the general public and get more exposure I'd imagine...probably many of those people wouldn't go to a show. Why did the Cadets perform at the presidential inaugural parade? Did they think it was a waste of time?
  17. Though I have been a little disappointed by this myself being an alumnus of this corps...I have been really happy with the Fan Network. Given the really small staff at DCI headquarters I think they are doing a heck of a great job with coverage. We now get to see full shows...I remember a few years back it was only partial coverage and I was annoyed seeing the same snippets at every show it seemed. I was thinking conspiracy back then. I thought other groups were getting better coverage. I feel ashamed that I was even thinking that. I guess I come from a time when I believed that BAC was seriously under appreciated by DCI and "the powers that be". I could not have been more wrong with that notion. In retrospect, I now realize how ridiculous and silly that notion was in the first place. It's ONLY another a week and half away right? Well...I know in drum corps that is indeed an eternity!!
  18. I saw the early season clip of Pioneer in that auditorium and was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to see you guys at Allentown! Good luck for the 2010 season. Go Green Team!
  19. I’m going to say completely overhaul/scrap the current system and go with this idea… Two Panels: 1.The Technical Panel (Field) – Individual Technical Performance Score 2.The Program Judging Panel(Box) - Program Component Score The Field Technical Panel consists of: (5 judges) 2 Brass judges, 2 Percussion judges, 1 Colorguard & body movement judge Field Technical Judges - As a corps performs; the primary field technical judge (brass, percussion, colorguard and body movement) will identify individual member technical performance elements relative to the specific category he is judging albeit brass, percussion, and colorguard & body movement. He or she will identify each technical performance element and the level of difficulty of each of each of these elements. The level of difficulty is based on published pre-set criteria. These judges will also score the quality of each of the technical elements. The Individual Technical Performance Score (field): 1 brass judge, 1 percussion judge, 1 colorguard & body movement judge – Each will judge their respective category for the following: Individual Marching & Maneuvering Skills (1 brass and 1 percussion judge) • up to 5 points for technical performance and level of difficulty • up to 5 points for level of quality of technical elements Individual Body Movement of Members and/or Guard Use of Silks (1 colorguard & body movement judge) • up to 5 points for technical performance and level of difficulty • up to 5 points for level of quality of technical elements 1 brass judge and 1 percussion judge will judge their respective category for the following: Individual Interpretation of Music • up to 5 points for technical performance and level of difficulty • up to 5 points for level of quality of technical elements The Program Judging Panel consists of: (5 judges) 1 Solidly of Forms & Intervals judge, 1 Entertainment Value judge, 1 Level of Performance and Grade of execution judge, 1 Choreography judge, and 1 Interpretation of Music judge The Program Component Score (Box): The box judges give points on a scale from 0 to 10 for program components. The five components are: • Solidity of Forms & Intervals – up to 10 points • Entertainment Value to Audience - up to 10 points • Level of Performance and Grade of Execution - up to 10 points • Choreography - up to 10 points • Interpretation of Music - up to 10 points The Individual Technical Score and Program Components Score = Total Competitive Score: The technical score (50 points) is added together to the program component score (50 points) and the result is the Total Competitive Score.
  20. You are very welcome...I apologize for my under the rug comment...
  21. There was just no way someone would just throw a story like that out in passing and then not want to comment more about it...especially when everyone was eager to hear more...I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt though...
  22. here somerville http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...howtopic=137282
  23. No offense but have you been living under a rug?...actually just look up top in these forums..there is a whole forum ad nauseum dedicated to the topic...
