  1. Don't form an opinion based on other peoples opinions! Go to a camp, or hang out at a practice some weekend, talk with instructors, caption heads, marching members, and form your own opinion. How many times do we pass up things based on what other people say??
  2. The first time I saw SCV and BD live. I was the 17 year old kid in the stands with my mouth gaped open and thinking,HOLY ****!!!! Spirit Of Atlanta hornlines of the 70's/80's. Man, were those cats LOUD!! Bellville Black Knights black and cream uniforms. ###### to the extreme!! Bridgemen and their on-field antics!! The all-girl corps. There were some very decent corps in that circuit!!
  3. Joining the local drum corps, being handed a baritone {an Olds ultratone} and wondering if it was the same one your brother played 8 or 9 years earlier when he marched. Still call high brass "sopranos". Contras and french horns. My sister still refers to the Colts as Colt .45 When somebody mentions Vanguard, I still think Des Plaines Vanguard. High lift mark time march. The First Federal Blue Stars. Silk blouses that weighed around 30 lbs{until it rained or you sweated , then they increased to 60lbs}
  4. DOOPS!! Sorry, my bad... I guess I shouldn't ask how many championships Blue Devils won on Dyna....oops there I go again!!
  5. I believe Carolina Gold is using Dynasty brass also. 2012 DCA class A champs!!!
  6. Check out the you tube video of the Chicago Royalairs alumni corps from 2002 at finals in Madison. Probably one of the best "modern day" examples of ol' skool M&M out there!
  7. Thats a whole lotta shows per state, considering that pretty much all the shows BITD were weekend shows! Week night shows were a RARITY!
  8. OK, heres a question. Does New Jersey have more drum corps today than any other state? I'm including DCA corps in this lineup too.
  9. Mark down another bari..... one valve, one rotor, and a coupla pieces of duct tape!
  10. I&E scores are up on the DCA site! Congrats to ALL the participants!!!
  11. three of them have solid color shorts, and then theres that dude with the checkered shorts! Obviously he ain't a team player.....
  12. And I predict that INT will be right in the middle of the pack!!!
  13. We have a lot of sub-contractors at the place that I work, and a few weeks back I seen one of them wearing a Phantom Regiment shirt. So, my curiosity got the best of me so I had to ask. Turns out the guy marched P.R. back in the 90's! So we've been talking "shop" since then whenever we get the chance. We were going to try and go to a show( take the kids, show them what the old man used to do) but he's heading to the Charlotte show and I'm heading to the Durham show the next night!
  14. I agree, Shenandoah Sound would be a great place to "get yer feet wet" of the drum corps experience! Its close to you, and the cost would be a small fraction of a WC or OC corps!
  15. OK, I'll play. I vote for percussion simply based on the number of spots on average in the drumline, and the sheer amount of talent at an audition camp. I've heard of corps having a nine spot snare line and having a couple hundred hopefuls show up for a chance at one of those nine spots!
  16. Whitewater, Wisconsin back in the good ol' DCI Midwest days, staying in Wells Hall on the campus. If you ever got to stay there, you know exactly what I mean
  17. Spirit of Atlanta 1979-1980. To sit in the stands and listen to arguably the LOUDEST hornline that I can remember ever hearing.............
  18. In no particular order, Blue Devils, SC Vanguard, Phantom Regiment, Cavaliers, Guardsmen, Crossmen, Northstar, 27th Lancers, Bridgemen, Spirit of Atlanta, Madison Scouts, and Garfield Cadets. Hope this helps!
  19. So I'm sitting there, attending my twin boys band concert (12 year old aspiring percussionists) and one of there friends comes over and sits next to me with her dad in tow. We get to talking and I come to find out the guy was a drummer with Southwind and Spirit BITD!!
  20. Late 70's when Guardsmen went from the pith helmets to the six foot tall shakos.....
  21. Didn't Troopers use the vistalites back in the day also?
  22. I believe it was either '79 or '80 when both Crossmen and Guardsmen played Tiger of San Pedro....
