  1. No offense to the exhibition or alumni corps, I truly mean no disrespect, but as a marching member of a competing corps I found it to be a bit too much. When I marched, I enjoyed the shows, but if you had to wait for 3 exhibition corps or alumni corps, THEN full corps retreat it ended up being a long night and long travels home.
  2. Does anyone know if this is full corps retreat or drum major only?
  3. Grenadiers have really never had a problem getting through the border. Planning was always well taken care of by the appropriate staff. Being an alumni and looking at things from the outside I'm going to assume the issues are money, gas prices, lack of membership and the lack of quality music programs in Canada. Music in schools has been on a major decline in Canada for a lot of years now. Governments just refuse to support arts and focus on core academics such as English, Math and Science. While this is ideal, the lack of focus on arts and trades is concerning. Being an active member from '97 to '05 I witnessed the staff wrack their brains to the point of pure exhaustion. They were thinking of every avenue possible to draw members from. They tried the Montreal connection, Upstate NY schools, the MAJOR hotbed of ODCA/DCI alumni in the Toronto area as well as recruiting from the streets. I have always believed it took much more effort to get Grenadiers on the field than any other corps. I guess one had to witness the BoD and support staff involved in such turmoil. Knowing the nucleus of Grenadiers as well as I do I know they won't give up. It was a valiant effort to get the corps back on the field in 2008, since then the corps has been highly successful. A tad on the smaller size, but now you know exactly why.
  4. True, but DCA is a numbers game. Even if a corps with 60 some odd members is better than a full corps with 128, the judges would NEVER have the guts to put the smaller corps in 1st. It would NEVER happen. It has in the past, but it would not now.
  5. Its all about numbers really and who can support an Open Class corps. I would think that an American corps could hit 65 members or more and support it more so than Grenadiers.
  6. I'll never forget all those NY State shows Grenadiers vs Crusaders rivalries. They were fun! We had a lot of friends in the Crusaders lines over the years, who always shout out to us as we did them. Thanks Crusaders for all the fun over the years!
  7. What rolls down stairs alone or in pairs, and over your neighbor's dog? What's great for a snack, And fits on your back? It's log, log, log It's log, it's log, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's log, it's log, it's better than bad, it's good." Everyone wants a log You're gonna love it, log Come on and get your log Everyone needs a log log log log *whistle* LOG FROM BLAMMO
  8. I don't know if the Buccaneer is actually on all the discs, but I would like to see an A Class corps on the A Class discs...Makes sense.
  9. Great pictures! Grenadiers looking focused and aggressive as always!
  10. I even remember beating Bucs in 1997 at the first show of the season. After that they were ahead of us all summer!
  11. Kingston Grenadiers 10.54 - 11 appearances in Open Class prelims/finals including 1968 then not again until 1995 to 2003 and 2005. Kingston Grenadiers 2.50 - 4 appearances in A Class prelims/finals including 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
  12. Those morons that send you hate mail should be singled out. Let their identity be known to everyone!
  13. From an outsider it might seem cheesy, lame or whatever. Those are terms I've heard thrown out there on that style and philosophy, but I certainly disagree. I just couldn't image Statesmen having a different style than they do.
  14. If your story is true, then how wonderful of them to do such a thing. Just what DCA needs is advertisements for weed being said over the PA. If the story is bogus, you're an idiot.
  15. Mr. Ream, thanks for yet another wonderful review! No nonsense, no bs reviews. Love it!
  16. Knowing Bruni and his design staff, adding the balloon wasn't done so for the extra push to catch Reading. It was done as part of the Statesmen style and the entertainment value. I guess one has to know the Bruni's and the history in order to fully understand how Empire does things on the field.
  17. Well we've all learned one thing here on DCP or on RAMD. One person doesn't necessarily reflect the opinions of an organization and its members, but it doesn't make them look very good. I'm no innocent one either, that is for sure!
  18. For the love of god, they aren't getting their chains yanked. They are judged and treated like any other corps in DCA.
