  1. It varies, but a few years back I started a thread asking if the horn line was playing less nowadays than in the past, and I timed a few shows and in my very limited data set, current (like '14 bluecoats) shows had the lead trumpet playing about 5 minutes of the show, and an 87 show (Garfield) it was about 8.5 minutes. Did a few others at the time and results were similar. But again, very limited dataset, and every corps is different and arranges differently. Thread was http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php/topic/161097-is-the-brass-playing-less-nowadays
  2. Looks like my local theater (Westfield) dropped it for this year, so I'll probably hit up North Brunswick as well, unless there's a group from the alumni corps going somewhere else in NJ.
  3. Wait, you mean corps-proper body movement actually looks good somewhere?
  4. Not about banners - but WebSense is classifying the /forums here under "Compromised Websites" classification (hence blocked for me now from work). Anyone know why? You can run the report yourself at https://csi.websense.com
  5. The thing that video made me think the most was how much I disagree with the "stand there and do nothing" they do at retreat. The tears and the quivering chins - those kids needed to let go, let it out and enjoy it. Right then, right there, on the field.
  6. I agree - go watch some horn cam videos from the past 2 years - the brass book is pretty easy compared to other corps.
  7. Sounds like an F above double C (on a G bugle, so a D above double C on a Bb trumpet).. the 7th staff line above the normal 5. Wonder if they wrote is as-is (all those lines), a double F with an 8va, or a top-line F with a 15ma notation... that's one high note..
  8. Similar here, MakeMKV to rip, but then I store it as-is on a NAS and use Plex. That way I just let Plex handle the transcoding and don't need to involve handbrake to get different output sizes/quality. Plex app on the Rokup and Fire Stick and other devices and I'm good to stream anywhere. Only do Handbrake if I want to put an actual copy on the iPad/phone/etc. for non-streaming.
  9. The trumpets at 2:58-3:12 are what most impress me.
  10. Which corps will be the first to announce the need for a new staff member, with one of the qualifications being an eidetic memory...
  11. FYI - I go to Allentown every year and I've never bought tickets until at most 3 weeks before the event. I have ALWAYS been able to get good seats (I'm always center and either top deck, or upper lower level which I actually prefer). I've done between 1 and 3 tickets. Lately I've been getting them from the corps blocks.. cadets, bluecoats, etc. But I alway find them in the Marketplace forum here.. and worst case a few years I bougt them outside the stadium.
  12. I'm doing an alumni corps this year, and its on G's. The sound was so awesomely loud (it was indoors though) it gave me goosebumps. I think I ned earplugs for next camp though.
  13. not what i said - I said if you got 2 picks - so on 1 flip you picked both heads and tails. 1/2 for heads, 1/2 for tails, 2/2 total = 100% chance you'll win. Independent odds for each, additive. No different than powerball, hence why my original statement of 2 PB tickets is 1/292mil + 1/292/mil = 2/292mil = 1/146mil, double the chance of winning. Simple in response to brasso's incorrect statement that buying 10 tickets is no better odds than 1.
  14. PowerBall isn't a raffle with a winning ticket you're hoping to buy and there's only one. Your chances of winning the powerball have zero to do with how many other people are buying tickets. Powerball is no different than flipping a coin. You have a 1 in 2 chance of picking the right outcome. Doesn't matter if a billion people pick the opposite or same as you, your chances didn't change. And if you get 2 picks and pick differently (same as buying 2 PB tickets), each has a 1 in 2 chance, making your chances 2 in 2, or 100% that you'll win. But back to the topic at hand - If I had won the jackpot I would have bought every corps a brand new set of G instruments and have 1 season all on G's to see what todays talent can do with them.
  15. Your odds certainly do increase. Odds of getting the PowerBall #'s right - 1 in 292 million. You buy 2 tickets (different numbers) it's 2 in 292 million (or 1 in 146 million), twice as good. Hence why you could theoretically buy 292 million tickets (every combination) and you'd have 100% chance of winning, though you might not make your money back if other people won as well.
  16. Oh where do I get these? I couldn't believe the difference cupping my hands like that made (especially at Allentown being so set back now). Don't care how ridicuous they look, restores the power of the sound!
  17. Did anyone see the reality show for Cirques du Soleil a few years back? It followed a small group of people from the audition process through making it or bing cut through rehearsals to the show.. it was actually quite compelling... I'm wondering if it will be similar.
  18. You think it's trouble finding quality Tuba performers, or that they can just replace it with the synth and use those spots for other positions?
  19. I was 14 in '87 when I made it (turned 15 during 3rd camp).. unfortunately had to drop out a few weeks before tour due to injury :-(
