  1. Regarding the Surf podium playing issue, we were told during the course of the season that multiple staffs had complained to DCI regarding Ben playing from the podium. Eventually, we were given a warning to stop playing on the podium or else face severe penalties for A) Playing on the podium, which leads me to think that there IS a rule against it now, and B) for playing in front of the front boundary line, which Surf had been remembered for doing way back in 04. So that was that, and Ben wasn't allowed to play on the podium anymore... Didn't stop him though at one of the late-season shows (it was either Salem or West Chester) when there was a problem with the synth, and Ben went all "#### the torpedoes" on the rules book. Everyone was stoked because we got a high score that night and thought that it included expected penalty. It turns out the judges were too busy enjoying the show to notice. Oh, and BTW, I personally loved and preferred Ben's disintegrating P-bone to the trumpets. The first time he did it in rehearsal, we had to pause the run-through because the entire corps and staff cracked up.
  2. Hey there,

I saw the response to your Allentown review, and I'm sorry that you chose not to put the second part up. However, as a Surf member this past year, I would love to hear what you had to say about the corps, especially since you were building it up a lot in your first post. Hope you were well entertained this year!

  3. They have one coming in already, and the drill is being redone for 10 rather than 12... Members 149 and 150 will be filled by positions TBD
  4. It is written in where the snares come in at the beginning of Party Rock, but it is currently in RLRL etc... mode until the single-hand trick is cleaned up some more
  5. At least I'm not the only one on here who knows his Japanese toku shows!
  6. Well, the color WAS the first thing... but there is a bit of "sharpness" to Crown's uniform too. I personally like it, though the drum corps folks I happen to live with don't...
  7. Hmm... I'm getting a huge Star 1993 vibe with both versions of Crown's uniform.
  8. I'm still trying to figure out how Donte wound up as B4 there! In a few short months, it went from "I just filled in, not sure if I'm gonna do this in the future" to "Hey, I'm B4 at Rhythm X!" And finally, "Crown Bass 4!!!" But hey, congrats to him, and best of luck to an awesome guy to march with!
  9. ^ I was waiting for that to pop up.
  10. Let's See... Cadets seem to have confirmed another new twist this year... Crown changes every year, and this year probably won't be an exception... Phantom's likely to tweak a few things... Surf probably has another new pin to go with their "Bridgemania" show... That's all I can guess for sure... everything else is a toss-up.
  11. I can't speak for the rest of the hornline or guard, but in the drumline at Surf last year, we had 10 PA, 7 VA, 2 NJ, 2 DE, 1 MD, and 1 I can't remember... This year, it's 9 VA, 5 PA, 3 NJ, 2 DE, 1 MD, 1 NC, 1 GA, 1 MA So yeah, a surprising low turnout from Jersey for Surf's drumline... This year especially, we actually have a large number of guys from the program at James Madison University.
  12. Looking at our schedule this year, a couple of things... first, our first performance is on June 23rd in Bayonne, but our first competition isn't until the 29th. We still have a week off early in July, followed by a week of rehearsals while we travel down to Texas, a break of 12 days between competitions. Finally, we have no shows scheduled between Allentown and Indy. Nothing too out of the ordinary, so I'm going to say that it's more rehearsal days to really clean and max out the show. It's not a "full" tour in the usual sense, but it is by far the most ambitious tour in recent memory (if ever) for Surf.
  13. It's official... Jersey Surf is a DCI trendsetter!
  14. Every time I watch this show, I convince myself a little bit more that they should've won...
  15. Surf did it first!!!! Now that that's out of the way... We didn't have a copyright problem last year as far as I know, so it hopefully shouldn't be a problem for the Cavies. But can I say... I am PUMPED to see this show!
  16. If they had the same number of horns last year... who knows? For a person who marched with them last summer, I can say with certainty that they put out a hell of a lot of sound last year for only 45 or so horns. Imagine them with 60+ last year...
  17. Oh wow! Total goof there, I had been using corpsreps.com, which firmly stated that Impulse was from Buena Vista, CA, not Buena Park... Should've done a little more fact checking there, good catch!
