  1. Sybilski and Keenum join the Santa Clara Vanguard by Jeff Pearson, Program Manager - December 5, 2006 The Santa Clara Vanguard is excited to announce the addition of Sly Sybilski and Tommy Keenum to the Vanguard Team. Sly Sybilski takes over responsibilities as the Visual Caption Head. Tommy Keenum of the Band Hall has joined the Design Team as a Consultant for the 2007 season. Sylvester (Sly) Sybilski - Sly has an extensive pageantry history, most recently with The Cavaliers where he taught the activity how to be technically proficient while performing state of the art visual design. Sly's talent and passion for the activity are a perfect match for SCV. Sly was a member of the Vanguard brass staff in 1996 and we are excited about his return to the SCV staff. http://www.scvanguard.org/about/news/news....2f-74acb1350560
  2. For the record, before Dave Glasgow was DM he did play Euph . . . and before the Bluecoats he was a saxophone player :)
  3. If the issue is how many threads there are about Troopers and VK . . . isn't this thread a little counter-productive?
  4. I understand what you are saying. However, lets look at it in a slightly different light: I think that the hype that is happening is in support of the directions that these two corps are taking. No one is delusional enough to think they can accurately predict the scores for next season. But what we can say is that these corps have set themselves up for success and will come out strong and swinging. THIS is the hype. Not about placements, scores, or numbers. I'm hyped about two storied DCI corps coming back smart, and giving themselves more than a fighting chance to survive. It's not about just fielding a corps again. It's about doing justice to the history of these two fine organizations. That's what my hype is about. And I don't think it can be too much!
  5. For the record, it's "Lizz". zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz . . .
  6. Tom is not leaving the Bluecoats. Neither is Doug Thrower. Fred Morris is a former member of the Bluecoats Board of Directors and is using his ties at Bluecoats to jump start the Troopers. In addition, there will be a few recent Bluecoats age-outs going to the Troopers as tech staff.
  7. Get the joke... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088258/quotes :P
  8. D Minor . . . the saddest of all the chords . . .
  9. This is actually the policy at most Div I corps nowadays. The staff members realize the importance of having corps experience, and so the vets do have an advantage. By making them re-audition, though, it prevents the vets from becoming complacent and not practicing during the off-season. It also makes sure that a member that wasn't quite pulling their weight during te previous season isn't given an automatic pass back into the corps. Vets DO have an advantage - experience, and a rapport with the staff. For example, when I came back in '05 after marching in '04, the November audition camp was 4 days before my senior (flute) recital. I talked to the staff in advance, and although I came to the camp, they understood why my mellophone chops were not up to par. When I came back in December, I showed up completely prepared and it was no problem. I'm not sure if a rookie would have the same leeway.
  10. Many thanks and congratulations to Sly on an indelible career at the Cavaliers, and also in drum corps. His involvement in Bluecoat history should be mentioned. Sly was the staff member who first proposed the "penny" tradition/ceremony in 1992. Current corps members still receive their shoelace and link at the first show, as well as their penny on finals day. I know I speak for all alumni of the corps when I say thank you for your mark on the Bluecoats!
  11. Never? (Bluecoats beat Cavaliers in the opening show of 1988) (As well as Phantom and Star.) BD and Cadets are the only 2 remaining corps that Bluecoats have never beaten. Time to make some history this Saturday?
  12. Jeff's degree comes from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
  13. Silver King, The reason you are not getting many responses to your actual question is this: Most "sheet music" for corps shows does not exist. Most members receive music throughout the winter camps, and are then expected to have it memorized by move-ins. From there, VAST changes are made to the show, mostly in the form of cuts, additions, and a myriad of expressive tools. By finals, the music that was handed out in the winter is almost unrecognizable. If someone actually brought their music on tour, my guess is it would be turned to dust after a summer of sun, heat, and rain. In addition, most people can be fairly stingy about how they share their corps belongings. My suggestion to you is to listen to your favorite Scouts recordings. and try to learn some of the parts by ear. It'll be a great learning experience, and you'll actually be playing the finals show, as opposed to some unrecognizable sheet music handed out in November. -m
  14. I hereby nominate the Bluecoats to be referred to as "BLU", rather than "BC". It is, afterall, one word. :)
  15. Ryan would have you tarred and feathered. Sigh. -Meghan
  16. Special Occasion Meal: '05 members will testify - Ted Swaldo's Barbeque Pulled Pork Beef Brisket Chicken Delight Buffet of Amazingness Party. Complete with entertainment from Ted's basement bowling alley, batting cages, as well as multiple big-screen tvs, pool tables, and arcade games. And don't forget the pool/hot tub complete with stone grotto and waterslide. Doesn't every corps have a tour send-off at a mansion?
  17. God%^* it Matt, why did you never march. I truly hope you get involved with a senior corps someday.
