  1. Screen is frozen in North Brunswick... Boo weather interruption!!!!
  2. Just saw Crossmen at the Big loud live event. You guys just exuded ###### off and hungry!! AWESOME!! So proud to be an alumni of this corps. Keep pushing!!!!
  3. I was on accutane one of my seasons with Surf and it was HORRIBLE. Even with being in the sun for just the weekends I was so sunburned even with sunscreen. I'd recommend to stop taking it.
  4. According to the Crossmen site, the new arranger is Chuck Naffier And the brass caption head is now Jason Buckingham. Not knowing him, not sure what to make of the switch but I will certainly miss Aaron in that spot. Good luck to the new crew and to Chuck, glad you are back to bring the groove!!
  5. I really hope this show turns into what 2002 should have been. We shall see!
  6. The Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps of Mount Holly, New Jersey will take the field with the new Quantum marching series from Jupiter, Mapex and Majestic for the 2008 Drum Corps International competitive season. After testing the Quantum models at the Jupiter headquarters and at its southern New Jersey rehearsal facility in January, the Open Class corps has taken delivery of an entire suite of new Quantum instruments which were designed with an ensemble approach creating a unified voicing across the entire musical spectrum. 7. Hey folks, Go to the door or window and look outside. It's kinda nice out right? OK well maybe the weather is crappy but the world certainly is not ending as far as I know. Get away from your computers. I've been involved with Drum Corps for the past 10 or so years and frankly I don't care that they've allowed electronics because I have other more important things to worry about in my life. It doesn't bother me one bit either way and I really don't think you should be getting this worked up whether you've been around the activity for 50 or 5 years. That's my 2 cents now back to that banana talk.
  8. Wicked winter weather is threatening the Atlantic coast this weekend, causing us to reschedule our December audition and rehearsal weekend in the interest of safety for our members, staff and volunteers. The camp is being moved to next weekend, December 21-23 at the Camden County Technical School. Prospective members who were planning to audition this weekend and who will be unable to attend next weekend's camp should visit the website by clicking here to contact the office.
  9. Full story is now on the Surf website and includes a gallery of images from the weekend. http://www.jerseysurf.org/articles/118/1/S...-Air/Page1.html
  10. Pat's a really good guy and will be an amazing addition to the brass staff. Congrats Pat!
  11. The last time that the Cadets and Crossmen shared a spring training location was in 2002. At that time the Cadets moved in about a week before we did and had rehearsal fields that were closer to the dorm aka slinky field (but to be perfectly honest I think were in worse shape than what we had up the hill). There were schedules that depicted when each of us would eat, just like there is in any high school where they don't want 260 hungry kids attacking the food truck at the same time. I don't remember who ate first each time but there was always plenty of food so it really didn't matter.
  12. Trust me, from an ex-employee, the money isn't why the staff at YEA works there. They pay well enough for a small non-profit but the real reason people stay is because they enjoy working for and with the members of the corps/bands. High staff turn around is typical when you have a younger staff and the pay isn't high. They seem to have built a really strong base of employees over the past 3 years and thing seem to be going well. I had other aspirations that I needed to pursue and that's why I left but I enjoyed the people I worked with while I was there.
  13. Don't worry Chuck, we all know that reason, and it really bummed us out to get Candle and have that be the song that we had to work on all season to get right, rather than cleaning other parts of the show.
  14. Trying to avoid the Turnpike traffic at the merge on a Saturday afternoon. Anyone who lives between exits 6 and 8A on the NJ turnpike knows exactly what I'm talking about!
  15. Hey Everyone, If you are interested in receiving email updates from the Jersey Surf as they travel this summer, register for the email list. http://www.jerseysurf.org/tour/index.html See you on the road!

  18. Hayley, The Septa that you are thinking of is not the same Septa the old phart Surf folks are referring to. That Septa died a few years ago and was also referred to as the fishbowl because of the shape of its front windshield. You are referring to bus 962 which is now the staff bus and has taken on the moniker SEPTA Surf Executive Personel Transportation Aparatus.
  19. Do a little back reading on DCP and you'll find that this indeed happening. Though not 100% right away, over the course of the next few years Crossmen will be a completely seperate entity.
  20. What's that smell? Me thinks there is a troll lurking about! :feednotroll:
  21. Like it or not, Running a Drum Corps is the same as running a business. When companies buy out other companies, often times if the company they buy has a better name in the industry they will rename themselves. In the case of the Crossmen, if you are trying to build up souvie sales, what better way then to have 35+ years of tradition and history to sell to? If you were in the souvie alley and you had to decide between the Crossmen through the years DVD or the one year of Joe's Drum Corps from Texas, which do you choose? ......we'll pretend the Cavies aren't at the show so you can't buy their stuff :)
