  1. Ah yes, Bishop John D'Arcy Stadium...named for the man who bought the Holy Name Cadets' uniforms for the Beverly, Mass. Cardinals when he was a Boston priest.
  2. Great work DMT. But you are just feeding the conspiracy theorists. .7 difference for Crown by 3 different panels of judges at 3 different shows? It's either a pattern or a plot!
  3. Ah, Mike, you know those are also doubling as the synth speakers!
  4. Your memorable recounting and similar is part of what prompted Cadets to use concert french horns this summer rather than the imitations.
  5. They like dark green shirts with khaki pants, ho, ho.
  6. Word out of Cadetland, new ending is as risky and quick as
  7. This whole argument seems to be a re-cycling of Star '93.
  8. Remembering Dan Acheson was director of Glassman before Brian Hickman. Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig...........................nah. I meant that Cavies did 007 twice, once in the '80's winning WGI World, and then as a corps in this century. Two very different profiles.
  9. Didn't he do Stanbury as the West Coast rep and then System Blue? you may also want to talk to a certain drum major from Colorado who was there for a very little while...
  10. Thank you, but I've already been there for three winters. I need my ocean air, especially salt water at low tide. Ah the aroma!
  11. DCPers, always aware and vocal of how to run a corps, who is doing it right or not, and which way DCI is headed, have an apt opportunity. Based on this major move for the Green Machine, http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/2015/07/cavaliers-begin-search-for-executive-director/ who do you nominate to take the reins?
  12. While I saw C2 and one rather large group of Hawthorne Caballeros at the parade in Bristol, R.I., according to the photos in this news report there was another group in the parade in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Both parades bill themselves as the oldest in the country. http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/americas-oldest-4th-of-july-parade/31/ (photos 24, 31, 33 which seems to show Cab Alumni.) Perhaps my confusion of which Cab is the Cabs is that the Bristol parade also wore the traditional Hawthorne uniform and not the new band uniform worn for the previous DCA contest(s) this season.
  13. talk about bringing the show into the audience! Thread should be renamed: Phantom Pains.
  14. Once upon a time, DCI actually had this and fans/members seemed pleased and respected most judges, even in disagreement. Then came along frustrated parents who brought along their Southern football style razzing and worse. Judges (and families of the judges) were bothered at home and business by some well meaning, others not so much. Even a few cases of threats, challenges of collusion, and many bad words. Some even attempted to influence judges for future shows. Schools and businesses where judges were employed did not look favorably on this, spouses and children even less. One notable drum judge was harangued by his own mother for many, many months because she liked one corps' line, he another. Judges' bios and contact info slipped into oblivion. Now they are not always announced even at shows.
  15. Cadets will be at the Jr. High School in Frisco, a district home to several of the corps members in recent seasons.
  16. Kudos to the Cru for an amazing 75th celebration. Here's but a brief recap of the energies demanded and pulled off so well. -increases score approximately 15 points since first contest. -hosts the largest attended contest in the East thus far at a venue ripe with DCI legacy memories from prior championships -re-connects with hundreds of alums and fans gathered from over the years to celebrate what some once thought might have died pre-maturely several times -wonderfully celebrates the Fourth on the Esplanade with thousands at a time when the nation is anxious about possible interruptions; and this in a city still sore from mayhem. -skips down near Yankees territory to compete in the tightest contest of the season thus far -joins the ranks of the masters and legends by performing with well known, well loved professional symphony plus BD and there is still a month more of drum corps 2015 to go! Kudos to the Cru!
  17. I am wondering if the newer posters to DCP who see similarities between Cavies and SCV (Weber years) realize that Pete marched Cavaliers in his day. Lately he's been at Prospect H.S., Mt. Prospect, Illinois But I have seen him write a very different style of drill for Eden Prairie Marching Eagles up in Minnesota. He's talented and versatile.
  18. I have been saying this for years. How can a judge work on the same high school faculty with the designer/instructor 9 months of the year and be absolutely sterling objective the other 10 weeks of the drum corps season? Ain't going to happen. We're dealing with humans, not robots.
  19. Sometimes on tour MMs can feel tired and go into learning changes with a reticent or dubious attitude. NOT THIS TIME! The members asked for a velocity ending last year in their end of year evaluations. The admin and staff have been talking to them about it since first camp in November. Those I spoke with in person this weekend consistently spoke of excitement with the music, responsibility to the audience and corps' legacy, and enthusiasm for the challenge. I'm sure you'll agree with the hopes that if the reality meets the hype it will be a great moment for audience and members alike.
  20. Wise words. Then again, as said the famous naval hero, Da(rn) the torpedoes! Full Speed Ahead. More than one corps has used negative criticism as a motivation to prove their critics wrong. I think the Phantom phamily has that same resolve from those I know. Last year it worked.
  21. there is not one standard formula for the creative process. Sometimes the arranger has a preference and dictates to the caption heads. Many times the front office (CEO, director, corps manager) gives boundaries and limits in addition to preferences. Membership even gets involved with their suggestions and end of year evaluations; sometimes this happens more in one corps than another. At times it can be one individual who comes up with a plan and viable way to achieve the goal.
  22. That the Midwesterners get special treatment, first dibs, and advanced notice has long been a DCI commentary since the first offices in Addison and Lombard, ho, ho.
  23. per staff members and sponsorees I spoke with this weekend: The plan for the 6 days is to begin learning the newest "new" drill for the closer which music has already been learned. A small segment of the ballad will be tweeked even further. Some slight "adjustments" to other areas to be applied. Special attention being given to the battery in the 226 section so that all remain vertical while flying. Guard is being worked.
