Appreciate your pov. I urge you to check out Bostons brass in the lot to hear the level of a book you think they need. It is there already. What Boston doesn’t do is over emphasize all the tonguing phrases BD and CC play by lengthening the presentation while standing in place. You are right that Boston needs to add a bit more ( everyone does) to deliver the knockout punch so to speak, to pass BD because of the benefit of the doubt they receive from judges. Not to mention to overcome the perception from the general dc fandom, that they cannot be beat. Evidenced by a year long acquiescence of their greatness in design, music writing, body movement. How many time do we see “ no one moves like BD”. BD can and will be beaten. It’s a matter of time and convincing those who continue to keep them high on the pedestal, that they are beatable. In the meantime, we are being treated to some amazing shows this year. At this point not one person can truly say each final position is a given. But we can sit back and enjoy it all.

You keep saying this but so far judges haven’t had a problem.

I’ve heard the contrary to this; that the spread in the field makes it more difficult for timing because musically the voices being heard are very different than being in a tighter form. So the risk/reward is actually greater with the staging a larger form presents.

But as an afterthought, maybe with illnesses hitting a lot of corps, everyone descending on the Riverwalk wasn’t such a good thing. Great to have free time but…. Heres hoping everyone is getting past whatever was causing sickness.

Would it matter if a judge had little to no drum corps background and be judging shows, in assigned positions? If a judge had mostly, if not only, WGI experience, what captions would they be appropriate to judge? I’m all for new judging blood, but if their experience is limited, should they, can they, be judging DCI shows? I’m curious. Asking, not challenging.

I think many posters here would tell you that Flo is limited in what you see and hear. And that’s understandable. These shows are full field productions that really can only be best appreciated by seeing it live. There is more sound clarity, nuance clarity, expansiveness of visual presentation. There is a lot going on that isn’t picked up on the tv screen or audio.

Send him another telling him Cavies made changes and added 12 more contras. He’ll kill to get there. lol.
