  1. It's not just DCI. My co-worker's niece is a nationally ranked fastpitch player. Her team just spent last week in California at a national championship tournament... the same week she was supposed to start 10th grade. She had to get special permission to miss the first day of school or she would have been expelled.
  2. Somebody verify this: it was named after its creator, the Great Zingali?
  3. Nothing on his FB page mentions DCI or marching band... not that I'm stalking him or anything, but hell, he lives like 20 minutes from me!
  4. Wow, this guy is local to me!. Given his resume on LinkedIn, bet is he marched SOA?
  5. Whoops! Gotta call you on this one. The name comes from the brothers who founded the store... courtesy of the Arby's website FAQ: It comes from our founders, Leroy and Forrest Raffel, the Raffel Brothers, or "RB."
  6. *raise hand* count me as clueless as well, and I've eaten there a hundred times!
  7. How did they go from a 9.9 in field visual on Friday to a 9.4 on Saturday without doing something like missing an entire set? That's why who's judging at finals makes a difference.
  8. Ironic, given that one of the greatest horn instructors and brass judges ever was Sandra Opie, and this was back in the 1960's through the 1980's.
  9. It has to be somebody who marched. Look at the horrible poster The Rock's folks did... nobody who marched would have approved that poster.
  10. Somebody make sure the folks responsible for this get tickets to Finals and have Rondo interview them.
  11. Okay, if you eat Popeye's, you cannot dis anybody else!
  12. DCI lost money being on ESPN, and since ESPN is losing money now, the broadcast time would be even more expensive. With more and more people watching TV via phones, tablets and streaming boxes, a pay-per-view stream is the most logical method. Since surveys have found that the average DCI fan is involved less than 5 years, it makes sense to focus your broadcasting efforts on a younger, mobile demographic. A YouTube channel perhaps?
  13. In a way, I agree. Very few people will ever know how the season went before Prelims... it's the recap sheets from Friday and Saturday nights that they'll read. While the individual MM and staff know the whole story, the only thing most people will ever recall is if you made Finals and what place did you get there. Not really fair, but that's life.
  14. I will admit that the first stream broadcast, I could not get past the jammies. I enjoyed the show, but the outfits overwhelmed my impression of everything. I believe my comment to my wife was "Really good show, but those unis? Ugh..." Now that I've seen them several times, I notice it, but I've gotten used to it and barely think about it.
  15. Can anyone see Bloo physically doing what they're doing with the ramps in a traditional uniform? I'd be interested to hear from their staff, but I would bet they came up with the uniform after they planned out all the half-pipe routines. "Uh, boss... how do you feel about changing the corps name to 'Bluepants'?"
  16. This is a little OT, but too funny not to share. I was reading one of the current threads yesterday at work and it kept blocking only page 6 of this one thread... as porn. I was shocked... that it only found that one page porn and not the entire site. I wish I had written down what thread it was because I REALLY want to know what the hell somebody said that triggered that!!!
  17. Considering that every DCI champion ever has won a caption award, I'll go with the title. You win the gold, you'll win a caption by default.
  18. Actually, all reality shows are mostly cooked. Ever since Survivor pulled back the curtain, every reality show has shown that it has to be mostly scripted in order for the studio/network to know how to market it, schedule it, and stage it for maximum ratings. There is no "reality" in reality programming.
  19. Same thing happens in the Olympics. If there's two golds, there is no silver. That happened in women's swimming about 12 years ago.
  20. Money. Same reason why there are no corps on the videos outside the top 12. The unit cost to produce is higher than the unit revenue for sales. Unfortunately, the world class and open class don't have the same relationship that the NBA and WNBA have. DCI could learn a thing or two there.
  21. There's already been a world champion with "Korean Pop Band" in their repertoire... Bieber would be less shocking than that...
  22. Oh my... what if it was THEM that stole the tarp to make for a better show?!?!
  23. http://www.fromthepressbox.xom/1988dcirecaps.htm I'm trying to remember, but looking at the order of appearance, it does appear to be a random order. They didn't announce scores and performance order for Finals was a random draw in two groups. As it turned out, BD went on right after the 11th and 12th place units, which might explain their below expected result.
  24. Holy crap, I forgot about that!!! What a season for them to be filming. Aren't they behind the scenes with Cadets? There has to be some unreal footage with all the changes going on there in July.
