  1. BITD there was a lot of smoke around drum corps, but it was more the Cheech and Chong variety, not Canadian wildfires.
  2. I tend to side with Greg. If it brings even a little positivity among all the doom and gloom, let them honor their inductees. However, if it breaks out into an all-out free for all bickerfest among the alum, I reserve the right to change my opinion.
  3. This must be Old Old Thread Nostalgia Week on DCP. I remember this place too from the 70s. It was DCDD. Drum Corps Destination Dining. Back then you could totally pig out for $3 a plate.
  4. Not to mention their world famous tribute band - Toto Too.
  5. Wow. VK and the palm tree and beach chairs during retreat? Ok, that was cute and in line with their fun personality. Kilties age-outs leaving their shoes on the field? Clever way to remember your last show. This? Off the charts disrespect.
  6. Whew. I thought for a second the show was going to be about Harry and Meghan.
  7. I'd rather see smiles than growls and grunts. Growling and grunting in drum corps should be banned.
  8. I only know about today's DCA from what I read on here. I never had those misconceptions after learning more about it, but I can see where they still exist. I probably was the same way before DCP. Just never bothered to learn about it. Must the crowds that still think introducing bells and xylophones in 1974 made drum corps go all to hell.
  9. I don't know if this has been the norm for the last few years, but the Troopers' tour schedule is interesting. East of the Mississippi off the bat, then back to the west, then a quick turnaround back to the east. I hope their horses are well fed.
  10. Well put and 100% right on. (even more mass applause)
  11. Several years ago, I quit smoking, largely thanks to Chantix, which is the ultimate weird dream medication. I don't remember any about drum corps, but there were some other doozies that when I woke up I was all WTF was that. Now days, they're a lot more about Paulina Gretzky and Kate Upton feeding me grapes.
  12. Didn't Cliff Clavin march drum corps? He's in the World HOF. That's a little known fact, by the way.
  13. I predict Gates Open the winner in a major upset.
  14. Crown could play Zippity Doo Dah and make it sound delicious. Actually, I just thankful If Ever I Would Leave You is not in that mix. Geneseo Knights played that about 5 years in a row and every other corps in Illinois would go, really?? Again??
  15. Looks like several pros and cons, particularly wrt logistics but I'm with Mike. This is a good thing for the activity as a whole.
  16. I think theme names are just to cause a buzz among DCPers and have some cool artwork on your web site. Call the show dark, vanilla, heavy or light. Just friggin' entertain me.
  17. Are they fielding 200 horns again? Freakin' Volume shouldn't be a problem. Seems like BS just keep chipping away every year. They're due for a big breakout and I for one would welcome seeing that. These guys and their history through DCI has been a story in itself.
  18. BDC is so dang cute. They make you want to run out there on the field and squeeze their little cheeks.
  19. Well I'll be. I never knew that. I remember reading somewhere Doc lived with ALS for a long time before passing.
  20. Who was that baritone soloist in Evil Ways? He blew away the crowd, the judges and the competing corps every show he performed in.
  21. Also found this. The Osage Precisionnaires Book | Create (osagecreate.com)
  22. One of my absolute favorite corps of the 70s. They were Blue Devils cool even before the Blue Devils were cool. That swagger and confidence they had was inspiring. Competing against them many, many times was difficult early on, but finally in 75 we had a corps capable of getting within tenths to them in June and July, but then I don't know what got into them, but they just left us in the dust from then on through DCI. I'm sure I've told this story before, but in 76 they did Evil Ways. My God, it was awesome. One show when critique was being done, I overheard the brass judge telling their staff, "When that guy on the baritone solo started playing, I stopped judging completely and just listened."
