  1. For me, another costume that might work fine on the field. But also another reveal moment that doesn't bite at all. It is kind of awkward, actually. There are probably directors coming to this thread looking for sage advice, right? (Haha.) Here is mine: Choose a cool uniform and just get the corps on the field and blow us away with great drill and great music.
  2. Even just the potential for a some credible dark horses is making the season exciting to pay attention to.
  3. I'm buying you a drink for doing al 39.
  4. It should be streaming from the two shows on Tuesday, probably with some interviews and commentary.
  5. It's a cool look, thankfully with no obnoxious, labored theory in the explanation. As I noted elsewhere, I hope (1) it translates well to the field and (2) I have too much else to be excited about from the show.
  6. I give the Cavaliers some plusses for a relatively brief, straight-forward explanation. Looks good to me. Anxious to see how it works on the field. Actually, I hope the costumes are the least of what I have to be attentive to in the show.
  7. Great point. I saw everyone, start to finish, at San Antonio, Prelims, and Semis last year. Lots of fun. Placing 18th still means a lot of energy, talent, and hard work on the field.
  8. Your giddy was fine enough. This works even better.
  9. I'm not a big fan of so much effort on show titles, themes, and explanations. And like DCI-86, many seem on the pretentious side to me. A couple of shows last year prompted me to have to bother with Wikipedia. ("Hey Siri. What the heck is...?") But I don't mind so much that other people like this stuff.
  10. Me, too. Though I don't usually think of the word giddy.
  11. I'm still thinking they might look good on the field. Refreshing, even. But that purple top and rust/burgundy leggings are supposed to symbolize the puritan look of Salem? That seems like a stretch. As someone else pointed out, the guard costumes connect well with A Midsummer Night's Dream. I don't see it aligning with a witch trials theme. 300px-Oberon,_Titania_and_Puck_with_Fairies_Dancing._William_Blake._c.1786.jpg
  12. Interesting, and maybe possible, forecast. But I disagree. And it's amazing how essentially everyone who see things differently from me are so wrong.
  13. I like the new costumes for Crossmen. And yes, some people might guess it is them, but I don't think it is all that obvious. Especially with so many other corps changing looks more frequently than in years way past. Still think we should all be a bit more circumspect in judgement until we see how the new designs and colors look on the field and as part of the show. I don't expect the Crossmen to look bad on the field. But a a few photos, or an over-labored video (looking at you, BAC), isn't enough to reach any definitive conclusions.
  14. Lots of potential stresses during a season and tour. Here's hoping members and their corps leaders and staff are attentive and manage these things well.
  15. I think this applies to me. I liked 2016 Bluecoats costumes. They aligned well with the show. The whole package, that's what matters to me. I am also open to corps trying new things, including changing their look. (Cavaliers did it pretty well; here's hoping the Scouts manage it, too.) And while I really will reserve judgment for BAC once I see how everything works together with their show, my initial impression is a yuk. I didn't see the Coats look before seeing their show last year; I wonder if I might have said yuk to them if I'd seen just some photos and brief video of those white wetsuits.
  16. Scouts are doing that this year, then heading off to Whitewater.
  17. This is excellent. Really great job on the update, and so far, everything works well. I would've paid an extra dollar or two, so this is great value. Thanks so much.
  18. Nothing about the BAC costumes look appealing to me from the reveal, but I am happy to keep an open mind until seeing the whole package as part of the show. The video is a tortured rationalization of the design, however. Almost like a caricature, SNL style, of a costume reveal. Maybe we are going to witness a bit of a Bluecoats bubble for a few years.
  19. I have much greater fear of sitting near people who buy and eat nachos or chili dogs than potential terrorism or other violence. Could LOS screen for nacho-eating fans at doors? Just kidding. Sort of.
  20. Not quite sure what this means, but it appears congratulations are in order. Teaching is a great gig. Much more work than many non-teachers think. All the best.
  21. Lucas Oil. Taking my 82-year old parents to see their first drum corps show. Do you think it will matter at all to newbies to let them know these are shows at the beginning of the season and not as perfected as they will be in August? Looking forward to all of them, but especially Cavies and Crown. Have never been as enamored of the Cadets as so many others. But I'm also hoping they have something better than statues and wedding cakes.
  22. I'm impressed you thought to look up flag dancing. And that was good info. There is an earlier thread about this commercial, with a couple of pages of comments:
  23. As Terri noted, a clear bag policy. It's pretty strict on what you cannot bring in. Here's the link: http://www.alamodome.com/plan-your-visit/clear-bag-policy Similar for DCI Minnesota: https://www.mygophersports.com/ArticleMedia/Files/UniversityofMinnesotaBagPolicy.pdf?SPSID=965779&SPID=166025&DB_OEM_ID=33500
  24. 1. More premium seating options at big shows. 2. Separate programming at LOS where designers compete to explain their show themes. The presentations must include time for Q&A, so we can ask things like: One more time, the lamps were supposed to do what for the show?
