  1. The Cadets Director change is a done deal. Denise is cleaning house. Wouldn't be surprised if Tom Aungst & Neil Larivee are the only Senior Staff/Design returning. Not a bad thing. Who she is able to bring in/coax & beg to come back remains to be seen. I wouldn't be opposed to new blood - those more on the cutting edge of the activity. After all this is what made the Cadets the Cadets...
  2. all a matter of context James......the DCA forum is nothing more than a select few folks sharing recipes and complaining about DCA. No talk about the possibility 3 corps could win in Williamsport No talk about the chances that Bush can fill the blanks with talent (like 2018) and bring their design to light. No talk about the potential for Fusion to develop their show into the most emotional one at Finals No talk about a much improved Southern Knights and their move to Open Class. Instead it's a constant stream of negativity about what DCA doesn't do.....plus some reviews by the pompous Big W guy (aka Captain Obvious) Jim, you seem like a good guy. I wish you the best.
  3. More like the result of averaging scores. I bet you deny climate change as science management
  4. Sorry to interrupt the knitting circle....revising after seeing almost every corps this Summer 1. Atlanta CV 2. Reading 3. Caballeros 4. Bushwackers 5. White Sabres 6. Fusion 7. Tradition 8. Hurricanes 9. Southern Knights 10. Sunrisers 1. Gold 2. Skyliners 3. Governaires 4. Saints
  5. kudos to Les Stentors staff for showcasing their members skills ! The staff of Encorps could learn lesson from watching them...
  6. wasn't that their least successful caption last year as well? Odd in that the program coordinator is a big name in WGI percussion...lots of talented drummers in California, should have plenty of opportunity to rectify the issue
  7. But the reality is the percussion scores will keep them from placing higher than 6th. Not the kids fault, but certainly some bad decisions by high priced staff - go with 10 snares, write a book that's insanely difficult, not set them up for success with staging
  8. Here comes John Bell's favorite corps....The soon to be co-ed Scouts
  9. Not blaming kids. There were adults involved in putting that show together that clearly were more interested in satisfying their own dated concept of programming than they were appealing to the members. A Chorus Line? C'mon..... and there is no excuse for the lack of quality sound
  10. Dear Lord! There must be some adults in charge of Encorps....please spend less time on cheesy voice overs and acting and more teaching the kids how to play in tune. That was god awful
  11. Cavaliers props messed up the field. That's all there is to it
  12. the more things change, the more they stay the same
  13. Or the instructor/director community refuses to allow the judges the latitude to do so on the sheets....
  14. 1. BD - can't imagine they don't increase excellence scores to match the rep scores 2. Bluecoats - a transformational show, yet in the end may not achieve all it deserves 3. SCV - they will clean this to a diamond, it will sparkle in bronze color 4. Crown - on the strength of music scores 5. Cavaliers - momentum the last few weeks, most likely with finals week judges 6. Crusaders - best Boston ever, except drum line 7. Blue Knights - strong all around effort. Give this design team another year and they could be top 6 8. Blue Stars - now that guard scores are improved, they easily belong in 7-9 range 9. Mandarins - see comments re: Boston Crusaders 10. Crossmen - sure is solid and has legs, they can continue to rise with increased excellence 11. Cadets - the opposite of Crossmen. From the second half of ballad to the end they dont belong in top 12 12. Phantom - solid music performance scores and the emotion that's built into Fire of Eternal Glory keep them in 13. Spirit - the show just isn't standing up to repeated viewings 14. Academy - the show never stood up to a single viewing but performers are strong. 15. Colts - premise and design is good. Peformance could elevate them over Academy 16. Pacific Crest - they have an outside shot at catching the 2 above them. 17. Scouts - The members are better than the show. They don't deserve to play a role in the melodrama that's happening 18. Troopers - Young corps that will have to work hard to hold off top 3 in Open Class (as do Scouts) 19. Genesis - more depth in program than Music City 20. Music City - limited content and not superb performance to overcome 21. Cascades - Momentum as they clean a show with many layers 22. Surf - solid and simple design only goes so far
  15. Colin wrote a book that is either too dense to be appreciated by drum judges (staging doesn't help) or difficult too perform and is less musical than the competition. Note, content doesn't always equal demand. On top of that he chose 10 snares to clean a book that requires utmost clarity to be appreciated. Who knows, they may correct course, is Colin one for self-reflection?
