  1. It was a sudden addition last week as per below: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=4...54-ed6045f483f1
  2. I hope when DCI posts the show on Encorps Video, they show the highcam version.
  3. Capes in the beginning look like Phantom '91/'92 - head band thingy looks like Phantom '87. Guard pointy thingy looks like Star of Indiana '86 / Crossmen '91
  4. What is the point of solo guard girl with the poofy hand thing.
  5. I try to read as much as I can regarding people's opinions with Phantom this year. Based on the reviews on this board, does it really seem like Phantom has a visual issue as much as an evolving show - similar to the last two years? For example, its been brought up again that the black backgrounds scattered throughout the field are eventually going to have clouds on them (when?). In addition, someone at one point mentioned two additional costume changes for the guard which up to this point don't seem to be in the show yet (when?). Some of the critcism that has come up deals with drill that is too "clumped" together, guard costume's that don't read well for the theme and from the stands (someone said they looked like "trees" as opposed to birds) and a color spectrum that is too blue/green. Then again others are quite blown away by what they see on the field. I'm looking forward to the broadcast next Saturday to finally see what everyone is talking about.
  6. I have seen reviews on the Cadets show based on what people who attend the shows are saying. Now listen to this show on your stereo/MP3 player. To me the narration is completely distracting. I have tried to be objective - reading the reviews with arguments for/arguments against the Cadets narration, but am now at the point where I press the forward key to get to the next show. I never thought this would happen with a corps that I have so admired in the past - even with the last two years productions where we had drum speak and singing. To me the music becomes background to the narration. I am convinced now that even if the narration were of professional grade, it would still put the music in the background. There are fans that are okay with this. I am not.....call me old fashioned. When the season isn't in full swing, I'm listening to corps music ALL the time whether it be on my personal computer or in my car. I am not going to be listening to this corps 2007 show in the off season.
  7. I vote for '81 as I saw it live multiple times - from Michigan through to Hamilton, Ontario (DCI Canada). That was a wonderful show and to top it off, they came back from their lowest placement up to that point for the win in Montreal.
  8. When I first hard the APD, that opener gave me goosebumps. I haven't seen the show live, but on one of the short videos available on the internet, you can vaguely see that the horns are running around in birdlike formations before the start of 1000 Airplaines. It is quite effective - I can't wait to see if from a higher angle. Besides the opener, I've got the Flower Duet playing over and over in my head.
  9. I remember when they went to the all white uniforms in '87 and thinking how much sense the decision to have that uniform made. I hope they don't decide to change the basic concept of the uniform anymore.
  10. I love this year's opener. Its a wonderful change. I never liked last year's opener. Every time I'd listen to Phantom I couldn't wait to get to the second piece of music.
  11. Did Cesario also design Phantom's uniform in '87 - the first year they went all white?
  12. Doesn't Cavies uniform actually go back to '84? There have been a few alterations since it was introduced. I believe that the pants had stripes on the sides and they work black hats when it was first introduced - I also believe the top part wasn't as short as it is today. However, it is still the same basic design since then. This would make the uniform one of the most consistent in the activity.
  13. Regarding Phantom last year, one may not have known it was about Faust without being told ahead of time, but it wasn't hard to pick up the "Good Vs. Evil" theme. From what I understand, it was "loosely" based on the story of Faust anyway.
  14. I love '98 Vanguard - particularl "Grohg" and "Down a Country Lane."
  15. Regiment got a pretty good score considering one of their buses was in an accident on the way to the show. I would assume that would affect their performance level.
  16. Phantom sounds wonderful - a great balance between brass and percussion. Their percussion is more musical than ever. The mallets are incredible. Its a different Phantom - a more confident one.
  17. I'm part of the Phantom phan base. I like Bluecoats as well. The more I listen to Bluecoats show from last Saturday, the more I warm up to it. Bluecoats 2005 show is one of the only shows that I listen to over and over again - its a great show. I'm looking forward to hearing Phantom's show this year (APDs from Omaha come out tomorrow). Until then I'm listening a lot to Crown. I got goosebumps during their live-broadcast performance last week - from that opening statement you just knew it was going to be a good year for them .
  18. I liked Crown last night. I think its going to be a good year for them. Talk about clean for June.........at this time last year they weren't nearly as clean. They have a new uniform that still makes them look like what you would expect from Crown. The only suggestion I can make is to get rid of the white fences. It was a bit distracting.
  19. Too much white - it seems to get lost. Nothing a red plume in the helmut couldn't resolve (I think it would tie in better with the Bluestars history anyway).
  20. I like the Cadets but I did not like the narration. The dialogue was poorly written and the way it was performed left something to be desired. I didn't know if I was listening to the history of the Cadets, the experience of being in a drum corps or some play on morality and inclusion (it was not consistent in content and the part where they seemed to be speaking directly to the performance was out of place). I was a bit shocked at the product - particularly because I have high standards for the Cadets - note: they created that standard. If you are going to have narration please choose one speaker, or the same group of speakers. Some of the people out there on the field came across as "uncomfortable" with the speaking parts. Often the speakers sounded like they were reading from cards. Also, the tone of the narration in contrast with the music was painful. Is there a way to soften the output? I also saw some incredible drill and heard some incredible music so I know there is hope.
  21. This is the Scarlet Brigade Marching Band from Windsor, Ontario. They were in exhibition @ DCI North that year.
  22. The Music GE Judge complemented a lot more than that. Here are some examples: "Be still my heart!" "This is amazing - absolutely amazing - you are touching my very soul!" "I think I need a cigarette and I don't even smoke!" "Go Mellos - go for the jugular!" "I don't need to talk - it’s irreverent to talk during this!" "I really don't have much to say to you, except that you are absolutely wonderful. There are a few fleeting moments, human moments where the bar that you set so high might be less than perfect, but this reeks of much more than a competitive environment - this reeks of wonderful musicianship, soulful musicianship, tasteful musicianship and artistry beyond belief. You.....are......wonderful!" I love listening to his comments during Phantom's show.
  23. I once wrote Phantom and told them they should do Daphnis and Cloe. My idea was that they would start out in all black uniforms and eventually change to white as the show progressed (and this was before they switched to all Black). You should hear the Montreal Symphony Orchestras version of it - it builds into the most wonderful release you could imagine. I can't wait to see Vanguard do it.
