  1. 3 things: 1. I hope they can co-exist with Fever and Mandarins being so close in general proximity. 2. Any preliminary numbers from those attending? 3. Mike Boertje for Pit Staff President!!
  2. Are the Freelancers financially stable enough to try this? There probably isn't enough local marching band interest for highschools to get involved, though RCR did have their home show at Del Oro a few years back. I guess my other question is in regards to DCI scheduling: Do they (DCI) schedule events without a venue in mind and wait for sponsership, or do they get the sponser and have them find the stadium?
  3. Upon looking at what might be the best drum corps season schedule ever, there are a few quandries in regards to the end of the season. Here's the list of CA shows from 8/2 through 8/5: 8/2 Northern CA 8/3 Modesto 8/4 Stanford 8/4 TBD 8/5 San Diego 8/5 Northern CA 8/5 TBD Does anyone have any additional info on the TBD's and NoCal performance sites? I'm hoping that we get one of these in our backyard here in Sacramento. Sac State or Sac City College are great venues.
  4. b**bs Great News! This will make my decree that 2007 may turn out to be the best year of corps ever even more likely. Now, if VK is admitted as a D1 (which I know is slim), I may just need to change my pants. BTW, here's a link to my review of the first ever Academy on-field performance back in 2004 in Stockton. I'll go ahead and pencil them in for finals, why not. GO AA! http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...c=30169&hl=
  5. Undeniably: 007 had WAY WAY WAY better music.. Machine had WAY better visual stimulation... So I say 007 by two "WAY"s has it.
  6. "Jazz: Then & Now" Then: Ellington, Benny, Dizzy, Miles, Brubeck Now: Maynard, Sandoval, Gordon Goodwin, maybe even a Brian Setzer Orchestra tune Could tie in with there 50th celebration by playing jazz from the past 50 years.
  7. Idea: On the day of finals, what would you think of an event where the top 12 D1 finalists performed in a concert setting....for free? Why I like the idea: + It would be like a giant victory concert + Hold the performances in a nearby park at lunch time + 5 to 10 minute performances, show music, corps songs or otherwise + Could be recorded by DCI and sold separate of the finals cds + Gives fans who can't afford/couldn't get finals tickets an opportunity to see the top corps live and in person + Good promotion for the activity, i.e. more public exposure + Could give each corps a music "run-through" before the big show + Wouldn't take up too much of each corps' time as they could just show up, warm up, play, then leave. Wouldn't even have to be in full uniform. + DCI or a local corps' alumni could host a bbq, $1.00 hot dogs, $2.00 burgers + Corps members would get to hear each other Concerns: - Trucks would have to be unloaded and loaded, that takes time. - May draw away from D2/3 finals - Too loud - Organizing all the corps would be too difficult - Organizing the park setup is too much work - Free? That's ridiculous! We could charge $40 per picnic table and $20 per picnic spot <**> . So? What do you think? You with me!?! b**bs
  8. Name change? Do you think there will/should be one or will they simply remain the Kiwanis Kavaliers?
  9. I just ordered my quarterfinals and finals tickets, so I am ready to go for what could be the greatest year in DCI history!!! A question: What 5 hopes or desires do you have for the 2007 drum corps season? As for me... - I look forward to the reaction of the Eastern corp's members as they are greeted by thousands upon thousands of fans who have waited too long for them to come visit. - I can't wait to see the VK organization back on the field (the return of Magical Mystery Tour b**bs ) - I hope to see the Academy stay on top of their game no matter what division they decide to compete in (hopefully D1 so we can see them at Qs) - I hope to see more shows designed for all fans to enjoy, not just us die hards who enjoy anything corps related. - I look forward to taking my daughter to her first drum corps show, even if she may never remember it.
  10. Phantom hasn't had a "bad" show for me in a good long time. 2004 was a great twist, Gershwin was highly enjoyable, this year was a classic. Can't wait for '07 in CA.
  11. Us over here on the West Coast are appreciative of ALL corps who make the trip out west, just ask Phantom and BK. We had too many years where the headliners were strictly BD and SCV, not that that's a bad lineup. Can't wait till 2007!!!
  12. Ditto. I don't see why they (DCI) decided to just put the top 12 on cd this year. If the reason is/was to get them recorded and shipped out faster...stupid reason <**> . I gladly paid my $45 the past 8 or so years to get all of the D1 shows, but this year I'll have to pay $27 (19+shipping) and then another $33 for the APDs. For those who graduated 3rd grade, that's $45 last year vs. $60 this year, and half of those have to be downloaded. I was really looking forward to seeing what/who they decided to put on the final track of disc 4 (I was really hoping for an Academy inclusion). Guess not. I'll still buy this year's discs, but I might wait to see if they realease a 13-23 set first.
  13. ON TOPIC:: SCV should have been ahead of Cadets...maybe even Bloooo Crown should have been higher than BK Pacific Crest got jobbed this year, should have made semis I'll be 39 the next time finals will be in Madison...that's lame
  14. First of all, MAJOR thanks to my wife who not only stayed home with our 1 week old daughter, but also allowed me to spend our anniversary evening out watching drum corps. This is why I love her. A quick report for SAC town (Sacramento): - appx. 400 in attendence, many RCR members - biggest applause was for the Mandarins making semis. - second biggest was the announcement of the Pasadena finals. - no substantial video problems: picture did go out for about a second during I think Cap. Reg, but was fixed very quick. - sound would skip out for a second every hour or so, again no big deal. - SCV performance was drowned out by one over-miced marimba, so that kinda sucked. - volume was a 9 out of 10 Now, as for my observations: - Really enjoyed the entire package over last years' production. Less on field interviews was a good thing. - More trivia needed! - Academy looked/sounded freakin amazing. Can't wait till next year. - Impulse left me wondering if they've forgotten their roots. - Pleasantly surprised by Southwind, Xmen, Crown, Gmen - Not so thrilled by Boston, Colts, BK - Cadets horns/guard/singers should buy the drumline dinner. - BD new ending was killer. - Bad camera choices, but overall better than last year's colorguard love fest. - SCV should be 4th. That's about it. Had a great time. Can't wait till next year...oh wait...I think I just might have to see it in person.
  15. This being the third year of the DCI Cinecast (it is the third, isn't it?), what did you think of it? How did the crowd/theatre you were in respond? Likes/dislikes? Audio/visual troubles? Let's hear the voice of the people!!!
  16. On the other hand, I'm happy to see the Mandarins make semis for the second year in a row. SW did have a very good show though. Shows how strong the lower third is becoming.
  17. I think we may need to alter our definition of "elite". To me, from 98 through 2004 there were 4 elite corps (BD, SCV, Cadets, Cavies), and every time we mentioned the top 5, the #5 position was nearly a revolving door welcome to just about anyone. "Elite" was a moniker reserved for those corps who had a consistant chance at winning a championship. The last couple of years we have seen a change to that 5,6,7 placement. Phantom has made solid strides to challenge for the top 4 positions consistantly, and now it appears Bloo is ready to take those same strides for the top 5. New corps moving in to the top 6 doesn't mean the corps they are beating are no longer "elite", there is just more competition (a very good thing). Perhaps now we have 6-7 "solid" corps: the original 4 + Phantom, Bloo, and maybe even Crown. All these corps seemingly could win a championship if not this year then maybe next year or the year after. It does seem that in any given year that 2 or 3 of these corps will step up as "elite" to really contend for the championship. As for Madison, I think their inconsistancy is what has taken them out of "elite" status. Fan favorite, always. Elite, not any more.
  18. Man, I haven't seen this kind of post since my ramd days. It would be incredible if you could keep up daily posts through the rest of the season. Great stuff!!!

  21. They've got a decades worth of drum corps to "poke fun at". Oh yes, they will be accepted.
  22. Okay fine. From THIS fan's perspective, Denver was/is the best.
