  1. Well, thank god they did 08-13 because those are among the few shows of that era that I listen to repeatedly. I love these shows and am glad they had the courage and talent to pull these shows off, naysayers be ######!
  2. Don’t particularly give a crap about somebody’s timer. This show is astonishing.
  3. Thank you Jeff Ream. Your response was rational and realistic. When the next kid breaks a leg trying to finish a show or loses a piece of equipment and chaos ensues or injuries pile up we’ll see what will happen...
  4. I thought Bluecoats ran away with this show. Very surprised to see how close the scores were. But the performances (at least from the theater) were all pretty good. Surprised Phantom and Blue Stars didn’t score higher than Cadets. Aside from Bluecoats, my favorite show was Blue Stars.
  5. I wonder why people take videos of some shows before the first performance and put them on YouTube and not others. Is it a lack of respect thing? Putting certain corps at a disadvantage in the public eye to start off?
  6. I never understood why people hated that show so much. I saw/heard it the first time in 1995, I think and was mesmerized by it.
  7. Me too. I’m usually meh on Crown shows. This one was awesome from top to bottom and the singer was great and effectively used! I think it is my favorite Crown show and my second favorite show of 2017, behind BD.
  8. I only see 2017 Blu-Ray, not 2018. Where do you see 2018 Blu-Ray?
  9. I don’t buy that argument. It’s already a biased judging activity. That’s what judging comes down to at the end of the day.
  10. Paying tribute to The Queen of Soul. RIP Aretha Franklin.
  11. 1. Blue Devils 2. Boston 3. Crown 4. Bluecoats 5. Blue Knights 6. Phantom
  12. Thank you for your opinion, and for introducing me to the mere-exposure effect. Not sure if I agree completely with your definition of what great music is, and I’m in the minority of not being particularly drawn in or moved by SCV’s show this year (although I did really like the part of the closer where they are pushing the platforms toward each other). I’ll have to think on your premises more. However, the show has moved many others and it was performed with confidence and power. So kudos to SCV. Different strokes and all...
  13. Blue Devils: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 The Cavaliers: 2009, 2010, 2017 Santa Clara Vanguard: 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017 The Cadets: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 Phantom Regiment: 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 Blue Knights: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 Blue Stars: 2009, 2010, 2016 The Academy: 2010, 2011, 2012 Bluecoats: 2009, 2013, 2014 Carolina Crown: 2009, 2012, 2017, 2018
  14. He has agreed that BAC won several times here already. He has a point that’s valid and he can say it and defend it as long and as often as he likes. Congrats, BAC, for your first caption award. Yours was my second favorite show of the night! And congrats to BD for being awesome and performing an amazing show I’ll have on repeat with your others! And congrats to SCV for the championship, Bluecoats for the bronze and a good show, and to all the other teams for your accomplishments as well!
  15. What innovation did the groups above them last night have? I think BD guard was more innovative.
  16. It matches the mysterious characters at the late night diner scene.
  17. I don’t know what’s innovative about it. I thought it was the cages until I saw this 2013 Mechanicsburg show. The horns sound like last year. The repeated chords of the ballad are spread throughout the whole show reminds me of the 2016 Bluecoats ballad which I didn’t really get, either. Also reminds me of Cadets 2005 ballad which I liked better because it had more variation. It might be the dance beat but that reminds me of Black college marching band. Or the flips like Crown did. They say you have to be there, but they say that about every show, so...maybe it has that 2008 PR attribute about it that drove everyone crazy? Not sure what’s innovative, but it’s done at a level that the people and judges are really digging, so props to them.
  18. That ballad is just so good! I’m digging the support the trombonist and trumpet get from the rest of the line during the bridge. It’s “messy” in all the right ways! It’s like a stew simmering in the background. And it’s ready to be served right at the repeating tag before the final chorus. Never heard arranging like this before in drum corps. Well done!
  19. I listen to the top 8 at least once a month. Especially Blue Devils, Cadets, and Phantom Regiment. Cavaliers show is light-hearted entertainment as well.
  20. I wonder what the storyline will be among the different characters in the show.
