  1. ...........well, typically it's the sopranos doing that, but who knows now!! To paraphrase Kenny Norman in order to achieve the bagpipe sound from the horns---"bad players play loud, good players play bad" = bagpipes.
  2. .....and it could be the dude or dudette didn't pony up their dough in a timely fashion
  3. Agree Fran............plus many spending too much time online rather than gettin' out and doin' stuff---like attending shows!!!
  4. From those I've asked over the years as to why they no longer attended, in particular, the championships, money or location was never an issue. Rather it fell into three basic reasons for them, collectively or otherwise, in no particular order: **No Longer entertaining. **Sameness in many of the corps--no defined corps' individual personality. **No longer any actual array of known and well received "personalities".
  5. My response was directed that another poster eluded to the sense that the drum & bugle corps activity started as a youth activity; when that is not the case whatsoever.
  6. The activity actually was initially ignited by the formation of drum and bugle corps based from veteran organizations such as American Legion and VFW Posts close to 100 years ago. At that time the corps were comprised of members from those veteran posts as an activity and social outlet. Only after time did the junior drum and bugle corps aspect develop---from that beginning. Most of the instructors of the junior corps were volunteers coming from the various service organizations veteran ranks. In the case of the Kilties, they were founded in 1934 by Mr.Raymond Vance as an activity to teach drumming and bugling at a YMCA summer camp, with most of the volunteer instructors being members of American Legion Post 76; the Post of the "Boys of 76". The drum corps activity was initially formatted to be a simple volunteer performance and social outlet.
  7. Moving the championships to an earlier date and off of Labor Day weekend may be a consideration option to look at, it has been mentioned by a member corps or two in the past if I recall correctly.
  8. Not as many as one may think. DCI corps draw members from across the nation--and the world. Many age-outs do not have a DCA corps close by to logistically make it feasible to become involved.....even if they wanted to.
  9. Everything now days taste just like chicken; that is everything----------except chicken.
  10. Leave it to them #### Racine corps. Then the Kilts had to go off and be the very first drum corps to ground timps, thus creating the very first "pit". #### troublemakers!!
  11. The folks at Kanstul do not offer financing of any sort from my understanding; never did.
  12. It's my understanding that if the "average age of the entire corps" in regards specifically to the Canadian corps was no higher than 21, a member could march if over 21; I may be wrong but thought that was the case with Canadian rules at the time. This was back in the 60's.
  13. Kilties were the first corps to "ground" the pit.
  14. Empire had "it"....................another corps could outscore them, but never beat them.
  15. Very impressed with the open house weekend, top shelf instruction, extremely well run, great numbers.....lots of positive energy. Nice job!!

  17. Hmmm, same thing the director of "Debbie Does Dallas" mentioned.
