  1. Still being played. The Kilties close every rehearsal and every time we part ways for even a few days with "Syne". *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  2. No matter what business was offered on the market (any market, any business), a potential purchaser should always look at financial statements, tax returns, various documents associated with the potential business, etc. and consult an attorney. That's just a part of doing business in a professional and correct fashion.
  3. WOW!!! Night and day from even 30 days ago!!! *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition* b**bs
  4. It's my understanding the having of a minimum number of members on the field rule came from the fact sponsors of shows felt they were getting "short-changed", inasmuch they were paying for something of what may be wonderful quality, but sponsors are usually number counters, and to them more on the field means a better value. Over the years I've heard this from actual sponsors mouths. *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  5. NOW we're getting somewhere !!!! *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition* B)
  6. If memory serves me correct, at one time PR wore no head gear. I believe PR had a fire which destroyed the vast part of their equipment and uniforms. I believe they were inactive for a while (a few seasons maybe??), then re-emerged in wash'n wear "off the rack" black pants, and simple "off the rack" red spring cotton type (zipper front) jackets. I believe they were a parade corps at that point of re-emergence. Wonderful history of overcoming the odds.
  7. But I heard helmets hold more ice with the beer!!! b**bs *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  8. Thanks Keith! I think this may be a rotating feature at the Special Membership Website. Some of the other member's pics and profiles are still hanging in the local post office, and should be available soon!! b**bs (after capture)!! B) All the best, and a Happy Thanksgiving to you Keith, and all our drum corps brothers and sisters. *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  9. Besides tams, The Kilties have authentic regimental white Scottish helmets/with embroidered crest in their inventory, but don't wear them. The tams are quite comfortable in all weather, don't hide the individual performer, and (of course) are a traditional piece of The Kilties uniform. *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  10. Brass line worked in sectionals, then ensemble and played through Nelly Bly, great stuff.......and sounded pretty darn good for the short time we had to work on it. (maybe an hour and a half).......fun time!!
  11. The Kilties use Gilmore Middle School, and have for years. Same place we had our "Membership Rally" yesterday. We use Gilmore for the winter camps, and the football fields behind the school for spring/summer outdoor camps. We also use a local fieldhouse to start learning the visual in late winter/early spring. On another note, The Kilties "Membership Rally" yesterday to kick off our 2006 70th Anniversay year went well. It was a great time and a good starting point. We'll see how things unfold. 47 brass, 11 snares, 3 tenors, 6 bass, 7 "plates", 9 pit, 20 guard, plus honor guard members, plus the general public, alumni, etc.......a great time!! Brass line ran through the new opening number top to bottom. Then great free food to wrap up the event. Next camp is Dec 10-11, then down for the holidays. And this all happened at Gilmore!! b**bs
  12. The Kilties also provide (during the season and/or "off season" gigs) information (hard copy) sheets to every member with the times and logistics. Usually these are handed out 2 weeks prior to the event, sometimes even earlier. Our schedule for the season is (typically) set by December (January at the latest). We provide music downloads of midis, and the actual sheet music for every part via our private messageboard so everyone can "woodshed" in a productive fashion. We also provide the ensemble midi, and each individual part midi (brass and percussion). Manuals, Guidebooks, rosters, etc. are posted to the private messageboard. The goal of The Kilties is to keep every member all on the "same page" in a very timely fashion as much as technically possible. ....it's all right here!!!
  13. The Kilties have a private messageboard and it has massive daily use. Plus we use "call trees" for emergency items. The corps also uses mass email, backed up with the email information also being sent out via US Mail to those without internet access. Plus we have voice mail with all the updates. We don't use messenger pigeon any longer.........we ate them. b**bs HERE!!! :)
  14. Yeah. If a corps, as example, is marching 36 Sops (trumpets) with 33 leads, 2 seconds, and one third......there might be too much middle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! b**bs
  15. 36 sopranos 18 mellos 9 Frenchies 24 baris 12 euphs 18 contra 12 snare 6 tenor 5 bass 6 cymbal 12 pit 48 guard 1 DM Take the penalty............... b**bs ## WWBD ##
  16. ....ran out of some letters in the soup. b**bs
  17. One thing to maybe consider is dropping the term "senior" corps for more clarity. Even DCA as an organization formally uses and endorses the term "all age" and has distanced itself from the term "senior". As a simple example......... DCI-Competitive (age requirements and/or restrictions) DCA- Competitive (all-age/may have age restrictions, may be regional DCI member also) Alumni-Non Competitive (may have age restrictions)
  18. Living life in itself is the education. Sometimes we learn from the experiences, sometimes we teach based from experiences. Sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong. Only thing for sure, it's too short. It's all what a person gets out of it personally..........good, bad, or indifferent. *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  19. Yes, Mr. Kelsey is arranging for The Kilties, plus also the Program Coordinator & Brass Caption Head. 2006 will be Jerry's 4th season arranging for The Kilties, and 3rd season as Program Coordinator, Brass Caption Head, etc.........plus hands on instruction and implementing the brass program. I think it can be rest assured Empire will not be playing anything Scottish and/or Kiltie stylistic, and The Kilties will not be playing something stylisticaly similar to the Statesmen. The Kilties 2006 production is already "in the can" for 2/3rds of the show, and the remaining 1/3 is conceptually unfolding. *Character*Honor*Excellence*Tradition*
  20. BVP graciously supplied The Kilties with 2 DVD's several weeks back. One was our first performance until several counts before our mellophone performer (Joel Magnuson) collapsed. They did a wonderful job of fading into a blank screen to avert Joel's moment of collapse, while the music continued as the corps performed to the end of the opening tune. And the second was our 2nd run thru. Both of these DVD's were of extremely high quality. These were presented to The Kilties by BVD as a memorial and private gesture of kindness to pass on to the Joel Magnuson family. BVP is nothing short of a "class act".
  21. That's a pretty old phrase in this neck of the woods. It's been around a few decades. b**bs Actually started when someone threw a baby....the rest is history. Disclaimer: No babies have been harmed in this activity. The art of having babies tossed is a professional sport, and should never be done without proper training and fully accredited certification. Proper Training Course Can Be Found HERE.........
