  1. It looks like I may be headed to San Antonio. However, I would like to purchase a ticket if one is available. thanks, Gary
  2. It will be interesting to see how Colts' and Glassmen's scores figure out once the Teal members are fully integrated into their shows. Cadets also added a couple new members due to injuries. I do wonder why their appears to be more injuries this year than in the past. Perhaps there has always been a lot of injuries and social media making it more evident.
  3. OrlandoContra: I don't know what you mean by Phantom's fans. I have always that off Phantom as being a classy organization, including fans.
  4. Where did TS get the money to purchase and print the new t-shirts? Secondly, this situation has gotten out of hand and I don't see any way TS can rebound from it, especially if media is contacted.
  5. I begin by stating that I never marched in SCV or have any association with the organization. I do caution everyone on DCP to use sound judgement with what is written on this forum about the SCV organization. Placing 6th at championships is no small feet. Many other corps would love to be in your shoes. I believe there is a proper place to voice your feelings and opinions. Writing negativity about SCV on DCP could discourage potential members from auditioning. I will say that most of my favorite drum corps shows of all time are SCV shows. I still remembers and listen to the Russian shows, Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, and Carmen. I also understand that many people don't appreciate these types of shows. I just happen to prefer shows that are accessible. Though I have not jumped for joy over the present music, I do appreciate the difficulty in design. Just a thought.
  6. Personally, I don't think a lot of schools in Kansas would support a drum corps. Though the attitude is changing, I don't feel most marching bands in Johnson County would encourage students to march in a drum corps. I think it would be even more difficult to recruit students to march in a lower tier corps. Yes, the DCI show is well attended, but how many directors encourage members to attend DCI events at theaters? I do know that there are a few students marching in the area marching in WC corps. I would like to see this increase. Perhaps this will change with the Colts now holding auditions in Lawrence.
  7. I heard that the Scouts will be stopping and rehearsing in Lawrence. Does anyone know where and when they are supposed to be in Lawrence? I wonder if they will be at KU?
  8. Kickhaltsforlife - I totally agree with your post. I feel our society has changed and not for the better. I noticed at a show on Monday that many people were texting. I couldn't believe the number of people texting in the middle of a drum corps performance! It did bother me that there weren't a lot of people standing up at the end of shows - even for the Cadets or Blue Devils. I am used to fans standing up and clapping for a corps at the end of performances. Perhaps there is a change in the demographics of people now attending shows and they haven't been "taught" that it is ok to clap for a corps, especially at the end of a performance. Is this a sign of our nation?
  9. I think I understand what the original poster is talking about. Perhaps this is why Madison has been one of the fan's favorites for years. I used to purchase DVDs and CDs throughout the 80s and 90s. For my taste, I prefer to hear music that is not chopped up. I appreciate the technical ability of certain corps, but have had problems liking shows due to unapproachable music. This is just my preference.
  10. I would like to see staff members be mindful of what they wear when staying at schools. I witnessed a shirtless staff member wearing very large nipple rings during a rehearsal while staying at a high school. Though this person appeared friendly, I was concerned about the image this portrayed to the administration, staff members, and parents. Many schools are not as "open-minded" about certain issues as drum corps. I realize this is a rare issue, but it is something that needs to be addressed.
  11. Hello,

Yes, I am a teacher but not in Milwaukee. I teach in Kansas outside of Kansas City. My school housed Pioneer last summer.

  12. Hello,

Yes, I am a teacher but not in Milwaukee. I teach in Kansas outside of Kansas City. My school housed the corps last summer.

  13. I understand that the schools in Milwaukee are not strong musically. However, there are some pretty good schools in the surrounding area. Is there an attempt to recruit these students? As a teacher, I was offended last year at a rehearsal I attended. I will not go into detain on this forum about what I witnessed. I do wish Pioneer would grow and be a healthy corps. We need a corps like Pioneer to succeed.
  14. Why does Pioneer have difficulty fielding a decnt guard? Are the guard programs in the Milwaukee area weak and/or unsupportive? I haven't seen Pioneer yet this year, but I do know their guard was pretty weak last year. Hopefully, this will turn around.
  15. I am looking to purchase a used set of flags - either Tie-Die or with a Peace sign for Godspell. Please email me at nobailey@smsd.org if you can help or have another idea. Thanks
  16. Does anyone know what the attendance was for finals week? Was it smaller or larger than past years? Also, how did attendance at regional events compare to past years?
  17. It is interesting that others miss the same shows as I do! I enloyed SCV's Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Carmen, and Russian shows; BD's Tommy show; Cadet's To Tame the Periless Skies, West Side Story, Appachian Spring shows; Sky Ryder's Wizard of Oz and Camelot shows; Madison's Pirates of Lake Mendota show; as well as countless other shows. I just can't remember the exact date and show title right now.
  18. I wasn't at the show last night as school has already started in my area. I would like to know the approximate number of people booing the Blue Devils. I will admit they are great great performers, but the show is not my cup of tea. I would not pay to see them again. That is just my opinion. However, I do realize they are very good. As for Star of Indiana, I remember a lot of the jealousy was due to the money given to them to purchase equipment, staff, and etc. I actually felt sorry for them at many shows. I do find it that I am more critical of shows these days than back in the late 1970's and 1980's. I prefer recognizeable music that is not segmented. I do appreciated that advancement in color guard and drill design. My largest complaint is with music. In fact, I have taken people to watch drum corps shows (potential donors) and they hated it except for a few corps. I kept hearing over and over, "Why don't corps play music that I recognize." I am so glad that Madison performed this year's show.
  19. In a way I can understand how the original poster is feeling. I have taken several people who would be potential sponsors of both students and corps only to have it blasted in my face that they hated most of the corps show (music). It is disappointing when you are passionate about something and then hear people put it down. I will admit that I do agree that some of the corps music/show is not geared towards the fan.
  20. Not this year's show. I have seen them 3 times live and dislike the show more with each viewing. However, you cannot discount that they are a great corps. Why can't they go back to playing music that is recognizable instead of chopping it up so much?
  21. I will admit that I have only seen SCV on Fan Network; however, I would not even attend the show if they were the headliner. This show is not my cup of tea. I miss the days when they performed "Miss Saigon," "Phantom of the Opera," the Russian Show, etc. I really dislike it when corps try to go too cerebral and turn off thave average (potential) corps enthusiast.
  22. The Milwaukee Public Schools sound like other urban school districts. I know of a few band programs outside the city (Wauwatosa). I am not familiar with the marching band programs in the Fox Valley or Green Bay area. Good luck with recruiting. The band programs here in Kansas aren't nothing like the ones in Texas. However, there are a few who are starting to march. I am hoping that a couple of my guard members will march next year.
  23. Why hasn't the Pioneer souvie trailer been on the road? I asked in Mineapolis and staf members thought it was going to be at the show. It also wasn't at the Kansas City show. I do have a feeling that Pioneer is going to build off of this season and come out stronger next year. With a little recruiting, especially in guard, they should make a big push. I really enjoyed the show this year.
  24. I am curious to know what happened with Phantom and the other group. I remember working with a top 5 corps several years ago and witnessed members from a corps that won that year who were not on their best behavior. I saw a couple of the members do some things in public that have caused me to lose disrespect for this organziation. However, I know that a couple members actions do not reflect that entire corps. I remember back in 2008 when Pantom's drum majors came up and talked to me after semifinals. It really made my day since I drove 8 hours just to see that show. I must say that PR has always been a CLASS ACT.
