  1. It was 8 by finals but they started with 9. I don't know what happened or when but there are clips in their Jonz dvd that show 9 in the early season.
  2. I'm not accusing anyone of anything like that. If the corps is financially stable enough to allow people to be members for free, more power to them. I wish drum corps was free for everyone to be a part of. I just know that there have been corps in the past that were desperate to reach certain numbers on the field and it came back to bite them 1, 2, or 3 years down the road financially. Your groups member dues a already lower than most organizations today and I applaud that. I definitely could not have afforded to march 10 years ago if member due were what they are today for all of the world class groups.
  3. At least the corps is getting a dollar out of people. There have been corps letting people march for free for years in all classes. They just don't advertise that fact. Most of them also ended up folding within a year or two. Hopefully that doesn't become the case here.
  4. If I remember correctly, it was in March at some point. At least in the late 90's it was.
  5. I second the remo powermax bass heads. I love them. For tenors - remo pinstripes. I've never found a head I like better. For snares - remo Black max on top and Ludwig X-tra thin mylar on the bottom.
  6. Glassmen's show is on their website. it is called kar-ne-vel http://glassmen.org/main/index.php?option=...&Itemid=109 edit: someone beat me too it.
  7. Actually I don't think that has a ton to do with it. The season may be starting a week later than it used to but corps are also moving in a whole week earlier than they used to. Nobody used to move in before Memorial Day, now you are behind the game if you don't move in the week before Memorial Day.
  8. I agree on WGI. this we be really cool for effects to be used in indoor but this will never replace the current acoustic battery equipment.
  9. I can't believe I see someone in the back holding their shako like a bucket.
  10. To answer your question. Cirque du Soleil is also very protective of copyrights. It wasn't Robert Smith's original compostitions. Robert is also no longer Glassmen's arranger for this season either.
  11. 2004 Cavaliers will probably never be available for the internet version. From what we were told by a representative from CopyCat Music Licensing at a WGI Advisroy Board meeting a attended a few years ago, it was a miracle Cavaliers were allowed to do James Bond to begin with. They are very protective of the copyright of James Bond music and it was pure luck the Cavaliers were allowed to do it. She even said that CopyCat wouldn't even try to get the rights for another group again because its ot worth the hassle involved. The same can probably be said for Van der Roost's Stonehenge and Cadets '98, copyright fees for his works are outrageously expensive.
  12. Of course it is only the start of move ins but i'll have to wait and hear for myself. I know Paul Rennick has been working with Dynasty on making changes to all of their drums to improve their sound quality. I'm looking forward to hear a different snare sound than I'm used to hearing out of them this year.
  13. I only read about 2 pages of this thread but i'm amazed at how many people said "They are the Blue devils, don't you think they would have checked?" I don't think the New England Patriots checked with the NFL before they recorded other teams walk throughs. No matter if it is drum corps, professional sports, or the business world it is cut-throat at the top. Everyone will take every sort of advantage they think they can get away with to win. I'm not saying this matters or not because frankly BD would have still won anyway (even though I think it is a travesty that they won percussion) or that they violated the spirit of competition or anything like that. Frankly that rule has a lot of gray area to it because it doesn't appear to list enough specifics from what I have read. If you think it is cool and helps your program be more effective why not try it? What's the worst thing anyone can say? No. Apparently nobody told BD no so they aren't in the wrong in any way. more power to them. I have no issues with it.
  14. Probably not the sound you are looking for but my personal favorite head combination is the Black Max on top and a Ludwig X-tra Thin mylar on the bottom.
  15. To rebut your devil's advocate, Of course everyone plays lots of notes. My comparison was the aggressiveness of what was written for them this year compared to last year. I'm not drawing a comparison to any other corps. I have not seen the corps yet this year but from what I have heard, they WANT to get back in the top 5 and are taking steps to get back there.
  16. From what lillte I know about this program it should definitely be a crowd pleaser. I believe there might be some Danny Elfman music involved. I know the drumline is playing a lot of notes this year.
  17. Matrix has established an affiliation with the Glassmen.
  18. I'd only buy one if I could get one of Lee Beddis to put on my wall.
  19. Brian Mason writes some pretty tasty stuff in his own unique way. I wasn't a big fan of his writing at Phantom Regiment but he did write the Cavaliers '95 Planets show. He's now a professor at the college I used to go to and I really like the stuff he's written for the drum line since he bagen teaching there. I specifically enjoy his front ensemble arranging.
  20. From what I've been told, I think of last year's Carolina Crown but on wheels.
  21. Cool thanks. I don't know if there is any copyright issues with that or not. I would believe it is OK since the normal program I use to pull in cover art takes the images straight from amazon.com
  22. Does anyone know where I can find decent quality scans of the cover art for the finals cd's to update on my iPod? I want tp update everything I've transferred to my iPod but I don't have access to a scanner and I can't find it anywhere on the net. I'm mainly looking for the 80's and 90's since I found everything since '99 on the DCI website.
