  1. That's the nature of the Open Class beast. Scores fluctuate often. Like somebody else already mentioned, the spread is key.
  2. Just a simple question, what's a good guard to band ratio? What factors go into setting a number going into auditions? Quantity over quality? I would appreciate some insight for this brass guy.
  3. Thanks for this bit of info! Gonna be a scorcher. Looking forward to the show, as always!
  4. I'm rather fond of 2005 Capital Regiment. Evil, creepy, and loud. Loved the music that year.
  5. That's Andre, the guy can work wonders with hornlines. He'll have them all classically trained before the summer is done. Great teacher. I can't wait to hear the hornline live.
  6. I'll take this as one that sticks out in my mind. For the new millennium, I like '01 Cadets. Every element of that show is taken to the musical limit as far as difficulty. Young Person's Guide had the complex rhythm, Vide Cor Meum requires such control to keep the emotion pushing like they pulled it off, and Farandole at the tempo they took it was insanity. Moondance was fun, not nearly as technical as the others, but the whole package was fantastic in terms of difficulty.
  7. Psst....... We had holes last year too, but, don't tell anyone.
  8. Your sentiments are very much appreciated, oldguard. A very driven and rewarding summer all came full circle come finals.
  9. I was pretty pumped up for the Rose Bowl performance. I know most of us were. Performing in the Rose Bowl was one of our hype's. Then, it got scrapped last second. But, being on the field for finals retreat was pretty amazing.
  10. Memphis is definetly going to make D3 very interesting this year. They got some good stuff brewing.
  11. I know for sure that Memphis is D3 this year.
  12. You can't help but completely crank up Bacchanale at the end. If I had a nickel for every strange look I got at a red light.......
  13. HAHA! I did the exact same thing my first time up. It took us about 45 minutes of driving and asking for directions at a gas station to figure out how to get to Paul Brown. It was quite funny seeing my brother's expression when we pulled into an empty parking lot at the PFHOF staduim.
  14. I was pretty suprised considering there was supposed to be a camp this weekend. I didn't think to check the site before I left my house to drive on up. Got to Marion Cadet Hall, and not a soul was there. Vibes were pretty positive at last camp, weather was an issue as well as school conflicts, so the low numbers were understandable. So I wasn't expecting this quite yet. Kinda disappointing since D3 was a good fit with my job and school situation.
  15. It is a delicate subject, drawing the line between constructive criticism of design and criticizing how the performers execute. It ends in chaos and nothing is really discussed. Approach is key, and your approach could have been a little more thought out.
  16. I think the mere fact that you made a thread simply for the purpose of pointing out a "mediocre" portion of a 16th place show is pretty random and un-necessary. I know you are entitled to your opinion, but im sure we all can point out design flaws in all the shows that didn't make finals and even shows that made finals. It's obvious by placement that the show had flaws in one way or another, or else it would be placed higher. The kids gave it their all and I thought they did a fantastic job and it was quite an entertaining show with a high energy finish that brought the crowd to their feet. I'm sure if you ask the kids, the staff and those of us who just sat back and enjoyed the drum corps experience, that was all that mattered.
  17. Word Smith can do it all, on the field and for concert band. Didn't he arrange for Suncoast Sound? The guy is great, i've loved the G-men's music these last 3 years since he's been with them.
  18. The ending of "Young Man's Guide" in 2001 with The Cadets was just awesome.
  19. I know i'll get shot for even mentioning it, but BD '05 was pretty clean. *runs away and hides*
  20. You read my mind. BD usually always ends on some quarter note or eighth not run. None the less, every ending is sweet from the BD camp.
