  1. This thread is NOT for arguing the pros and cons, but simply for posting the latest updates if FACT. For those who can't tell the difference, "G7 will save/ruin DCI" is NOT fact. I am just looking for things like "So and so made a proposal at a rules conference.....there is nothing to report until the next meting in 2 months, etc....
  2. need at least 10, can use as many as 30. picture HERE
  3. Love it Joey......but realize not ALL circuits require copyright permission..... by putting it out there, your work may very easily be used without your permission.
  4. One of my high shcool kids just got into the Oklahoma colorguard but apparently they have no wwinter program. Are there any independent guard in the Norman Oklahoma area???
  5. DANG! I don't care WHO I was marching with... if i saw THAT on the field i was supposed to practice on, i'd get on the bus and refuse to get off until they took me to a school that was NOT in the heart of Viperville! <----------Does NOT do snakes!
  6. 2004, hands down!!! i'm not sure that would beat Revolution and Triumph or the Planets, but those 3 run neck and neck for my favorite.
  7. can tell you that in the Sacramento CA area, MANY of the bands are having a heck of a tiem even getting memebers INTO their guards. People want to be in cheerleading and drill team, but not guard.... We have often fielded bands of 70 with guards of less than 10. BUT... places like James Logan, where the kids get PE credit for it thrive. I've always said that once you get em in, MANY of them will get hooked. That said, i'm NOT saying logan takes anyone that walks in... even their A guard is pretty good, but I am guessing that it their case, it helps to have a really strong junior high feeder guard as well. in other schools, it may help that spinnign a flag will "get you out of" girls having to play flag football, etc. I can also tell you that the guard numebrs when I was in high school went as follows: freshman year: 22 sophomore: 18 junior: 10 senior: 10 I graduated in 93 and I haven't seen my high school guard have more than 10 since then. It's quite sad becuase the band puts on a good program... we just can't get the guard.
  8. Madison also did Cy coleman's City of Angels 2 years in a row. If you look at corpsreps.com and look in the 70s and 80s, you will see MANY corps did something like the following: 1980: Songs ABCD, and E 1981: Songs CDEF, and G 1982: Songs EFGH, and I 1983: Songs GHIJ, and K it seems it was quite common back then. Yes, that's different than rpeating an entire show, but arrangements and drills are different, even if the basic song is the same.... you are still learning a whole new show.
  9. I saw some of that, but it still didn't make sense... at least not to me, and i've been following drum corps for years and have figured out some pretty obscure stories and themes. What came across to me was their show was a about a kid and some toy soldiers. I never would ahve gotten that storyline from it. That said, i don't NEED to understand a story line to enjoy the show for what it is.... but if you want me to understand a specific story, then it needs to be more clear. and THAT said, i marched a show that had a DEFINITE storyline, but chances are, it did NOT come across to the audience what/why we in the guard were dressed the way we were, how the silks fed into the story, etc.... but it was still one bad### show, whether you "got" the story or not.
  10. Except that i saw their show and had NO IDEA what it was about, other than some kid running around a field of toy soldiers.... that little story doesn't come across JUST from the show.... and that's part of the reason i didn't like it.... i didn't get it.
  11. so if the Cavis pull out of the G7, does that mean it becomes the G6? Or will the take the next closest to the top (who may be 8th or 9th or 10th) that wants in? AND... what happens if 2-3 years down the road, one or 2 of the G7 stop being "star quality" for some reason?
  12. Let's not forget that part of what drives these corps to work so hard and be so good IS the competition factor!
  13. Save your breath Sue... you are just confusing the issue with all that fact, truth, and rationale, which, no matter HOW much it makes sense, SOME people will refuse to believe.
  14. ok, I JUST saw this thread and clicked o it because I am affiliated with a minnesota corps....this is ALL news to me... can someone diret me to a thread or PM me who/what the "G7" or G7 plan is?? I have never heard of it. EDITED never mind. I now see there is a whole sub forum to answer my questions.
  15. if you want tricky exchanges, go for Northern Lights' Road to Perdition Show....DANG! If anyone got sick and couldn't perform in a show, I imagine that required major alterations on show day!
  16. years ago, I printed his entire blog of Nikk-Naks....if it was part of that, then I have it....IMHO, he is a VERY talented writer.
  17. Best of luck to my Freelancer Family! Bring back the red and black! WIsh I ould be there to be the one to yell SAC IS BACK - PLAYBALL!
  18. ok, for a very brief moment, I thought someone had jacked my DCP account and was posting as me.....then I noticed the slight difference! heheheh... good luck GuardDiva!
  19. So, i'm curious now, not about he meaning of Splooie, but about other words and hypes other corps have ....... so let's create a list: Cavis: Splooie PR: SUTA Everyone knows those two, but coats and "six words"??? Renegades (senior corps) has "Seven!" someone mentioned one that special to SCV? any other corps have hings like this tha are steeped in tradition?
  20. I happen to know someone who used to be married to someone who once knew someone who had a friend that had heard of someone who thought they knew where the Hurcs were based out of.......and she said that the it's ok, the movie people wrote to teh Hurcs and got permission to use their music......conspiracy theory officially deflated!
  21. We are doing a retro show that include snippets of MANY shows of our bands history. As such, we are also returning o the "old" uniforms, which fo the guard, means the old parade uniforms that coordinate with the band proper. Think light blue vests over white tops, gauchos, and majorette boots. But we are updating the look a little by turning the gauchos into capris and going with a barefoot look instead of white majorette boots. I was going to go with the tan colored dance shoes, but I have 2 african american girls this year, so the tan shoes obviously won't work for them. Any thoughts? how have other people solved this issue in the past?
  22. Congrats to my fellow Minnesota corps brothers and sisters!!!! Ya done good!
  23. not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.. We were told by our staff that They were told full uniform only. But then again, we were the secondcorps on that day, so perhaps by the time you guys were ready to be let back in, someone else had complained enough that they relaxed the rules a bit? hard to say. overall, still a GREAT weekend!!!!
  24. I agree it's not all about me, but as a performer who spends money to be in my corps, get to DCA, etc, I'd like to think that the performer's needs are at least CONSIDERED, and yes, if the people who made these rules were standing in front of me, I would ask them what they were thinking.....what was the logic or impetus behind not allowing corps members back into the stadium unless they were in full uniform??? Food issue set aside, when I am done performing, I want to get OUT of sweaty stinky clothes, not sit in them for the next 3 hours.
