  1. I think there was less ranting in all of the annual posts about Hopkins' "bastardizations" of drum corps than there is in this one about something that will seldom be seen. For crying out loud - get a life... KISS A GIRL!!!
  2. 2008 Blue Stars, and not just because of the historical significance. VK was a lot of fun, though...
  3. That's easy: 1974 Muchachos - "Spirit of the Bull" 1989 Santa Clara "Phantom" - perfectly put together show 2008 Phantom "Spartacus" - perfect EVERYTHING! 2008 Blue Stars "Le Tour" - Return to finals
  4. I was also going to recommend Mark, but here's another place you might check: http://militarymusic.com/
  5. Thriving Ivory... And everything they do is in the same key, too, so it could be a ten-minute medley!
  6. How on earth can an American be "uncomfortable with overt patriotism"? Bring back the Colors and the flag pres...
  7. I bought a Playstation 3 because of the reviews I read about its Blu-Ray player. It was less expensive than most of the standalone players, and it plays games! What more is there?
  8. Sounds like the brother of a friend of mine. He was a farmer and used to tell people "My dad left me the land and the equipment and, other than that, I made it on my own..."
  9. Folks don't believe me when I tell them that in 1976 we couldn't see the top of the drum major's podium from the far side of the field! We were all out of breath before we reached the down slope! Whitewater did have mosquitos, but the stadium had the most perfect echo on the planet!
  10. I liked the unis, but the "football field green" made them a bit hard to see...
  11. I'm pretty certain that the Blue Stars had 22... But I think they also had about 100 rookies...
  12. I would think the opposite would be true, since drum corps is all about the acoustic... It's tough to look cool playing anything that requires more than one person to carry it.
  13. Why not drop a note to the corps you are interested in and ask them? They will be more than willing to send you their audition sheets and information, I'm sure. I also feel pretty confident that they would talk to you one-on-one and answer any questions you have. A lot of folks won't even audition because they are afraid that drum corps are comprised of a bunch of supermen (and women), but nothing is further from the truth. They are all regular folks with an insatiable desire to work their ***** off to be the best they can be. Do it NOW... You'll be glad you did!
  14. That's kinda what I thought, but I appreciate hearing it from someone who saw it live. F C O!!!!!
  15. My daughter's high school band last year had a field show entitled "Symphonic Images", a collection of really nice Russian classics. Like most high school bands, they had T-shirts made with the show name, etc. on it and, at the bottom of the shirt, were Russian characters that supposedly translated "Shut Up and Play". I looked it up on one of the online translation programs and, although it was close to what they wanted, a couple of incorrect characters made the saying closer to "Game Over"...
  16. As always, the blog was amazing! It was the closest thing to being there for us "homies". It was particularly enjoyable watching semis on one PC and reading your blog on the other. Knowing how much work a good blog requires, it's obvious you're not in it for the money...
  17. Personally, I thought the Scouts' show progressed much further than the Colts' between Atlanta and BLUEmington. The Colts had a very effective theme and tied the elements together well, but I thought the Scouts succeeded in capturing the feel of their subject, "The Night of the Iguana", as well as any corps in recent memory (ignoring 2008 Phantom, of course...) I love drum corps!!!
  18. Allen and I were in the United States of America School Band and Chorus together once. ...not that this particular fact is of interest to anyone... ...but he was a killer soloist in high school, too. Probably the best that Missoula, Montana ever produced...
  19. The camera even panned over to catch the Blue Stars' warmup. I thought that was pretty neat!
