2008 Final$ package ticket price preview

Recommended Posts

Yet, the whole time we were discussing A FAMILY

A FAMILY

A FAMILY

buying the PACKAGE

PACKAGE

PACKAGE

Which is why your waffling from the package to the ticket back to the package is inappropriate. You want people to think, "hey, what's the big deal, it's only $7 more," when it really is $160 more for the family of four.

But feel free to continue to misrepresent the numbers to deceive people from reality.

You are completely unable to comprehend what I am saying. It baffles me.

Let me give you a brief recap so maybe you can understand what I am saying.

But this does raise a good question...how many kids can afford to go to finals anymore? $290 ain't chump change. I always looked at drum corps as a family oriented activity. A family of four now has to pay over $1000 to see drum corps at its best. We have already heard from one parent saying that choosing to have his son march means choosing to not see him march at his best. That must be heart breaking.

What does DCI really want, rich people, or family involvement. Drum corps has always been a niche activity, but it seems that DCI wants to tighten that niche considerably more.

How many families can no longer afford to go to big shows, bring a newbie or two to get them interested and spread the joy? I just don't see how this makes sense in the long run. Build the largest fan base you can, they will provide the finances.

Here you say that in order to see drum corps at its best someone has to pay $290. This is entirely false. In order to see the final FIVE shows of the season someone does have to pay $290 for the MOST EXPENSIVE SEATS. In reality to see drum corps at it's best (Finals, one show, one ticket) you only have to pay about $90. Keep in mind that it IS possible to buy individual tickets eventually so the single ticket discussion is entirely relevant to whether or not DCI is pricing people out of seeing drum corps at its best.

Last year you had to pay $83 per ticket if you bought the package.

Following me so far?

And those cheaper seats are where?....Outside the 5 yardlines? A family of four, paying $75 a ticket, pays $300. One show, not the most expensive tickets. It still ain't chump change, no matter how you slice it.

Obviously at this point you were with me, because you acknowledge paying $75 for a single ticket. How did you come up with $75 for a ticket? You completely fabricated it, that's how. You didn't even bother to figure out how much a single ticket actually costs.

After this point though you backpedal and start accusing me of "accounting slight of hand" when I try to use real numbers instead of this imaginary $75 you pulled out of nowhere.

So in conclusion. The face value of the tickets, be they in a package or individual tickets, has increased by approximately $7 each.

Yes, if you buy the package of 5 that means that you have to count the $7 more than once because there is more than one ticket.

I am not trying to confuse anyone with shady math or anything else you have falsely accused me of doing.

So seriously? Go. Don't go. We're not going to change anyone's mind.

Agree.

However, if you're on the fence 'cause of price right now, save your pennies and wait until tix show up here and on eBay...there's usually plenty to go 'round the closer August gets (sometimes at a discount).

Think of all the money you'd spend in the next nine months on things like coffee and pornography. Just cut out that extraneous stuff, and suddenly you'll have the wherewithal to afford the tickets. It's amazing what we can afford when we eschew the little short-term things that chip away at our funds.

Actually, I have comprehended what you have said. The price difference is $7 more to get the worst seats available. For a family of four. 3 shows times $7 times 4 people is $81...again, for much worse seats. Now, we know that is really $80 and I don't want to use a made up number (yes, I picked $75 out of the air to simply show that even at a substantial discount, it was still a significant increase. Now, if you buy the package, since those are the prices we are comparing, the package price for tickets, you must buy the other two shows. There is no three show option as far as I know. So, there's another $20 per person (at your estimate of $10 per show). 4 times 20 equals $80 plus the other $80 equals $160. Comprehend? Or, do you think that I made these numbers up? So, that little, insignificant $7 increase is, in reality, a $160 increase to the family of four.

Do you follow me?

So, it comes down to giving up things in order to go to drum corps. I know you are being somewhat facitious here, but, is that what DCI is becoming?

Not that I'm a fan of expensive tickets...but isn't that how most things work? :)

I admit drum corps (Finals/Regionals anyway) isn't always a spur-of-the-moment "let's go check this out" endeavor, but hey...most of the local shows still are. Hopefully, they stay that way.

Unless you're a big fan of massive credit card debt, I think most of us can agree that you save for the things you want in life. A vacation, a special event, for your kids special event...etc, all of which you could technically place Finals "under" (although Indianapolis isn't a real vacationy type of place, really).

Anyway, I agree...ticket prices are frustrating. As Obi-Wan said once though, something something something "alternatives". :P

It's a trip to the finals. Predicated on my guess that you don't live in Indiana, this means you have to plan this out. You save money for other vacations, why not this?
