So what was it about St. Raphael's Golden Bucs that enabled them to produce so many monster low brass players? It's almost 50 years since these photos were taken and all of these cats can still bring it.

... practice ... practice ... practice ... practice ... practice ... just like yourself, they NEVER stopped playing ... and I mean NEVER ... they all started out like any other Jr. corps kid in Bpt ... handed a horn in some CYO or PAL hall and told to send some air through it ... no formal training ... no music ed program at school ... just some sincere instructors that set them on the right path (for little or no money) ...

just keeping it on top...

Please Read Before You Post

If you *know* who it is.... please wait a while (not everyone is on here all day or even daily for that matter)

If there have been no Guesses..........Then give a *challenging* hint.

When giving hints on these try to be creative and just dangle the tiniest tidbit. Make people really think / work on it. Then wait it out a while before tossing another tiny vague tidbit...

C'mon we've got to make these last a little longer. PLEASE??

Also, any comments made MUST be made in good taste... this is a fun loving thread... not a revenge match. Please spew your venom elsewhere.

Please submit any questions and / or pics in their full size (preferably JPG format), with full description - names, Corps, Stadium, Year... etc. to:

The *Guess Who* Mailbox

Thanx in advance!

All that said and out of the way..

Hmmmm ... let me get out my Cliff notes on this one ...

:-)

"Cliff's Notes":

As I recall he performed them with outstanding tone quality. Yep: I know "Who" this one is also, but facing threatned "Liquidadtion" mum's the word on "Outing " him.

I remember him from "Individual" contests at Stratford Legion, Hawthorne, and Mineola. If he didn't "Win" he was usually in the top two.

He is an "Charter" member of Park City Pride, and played a duet with John Donovan in Joe Genero's arrangement of "A Taste of Honey".

He has been a member of the Hawthorne Caballeros and their Alumni Corps (Charter Member?) for many years, and is a Charter member of the Buglers Hall of Fame.

Over to you Mr Lisko.......

Actually, I believe he was still in the competing Cabs when their Alumni Corps was formed in 95 ... then he began playing with the Alumni and marching with the A-Section of the field corps.

A true virtuoso on the bari ... Billy Hightower was his idol ... he patterned his play after him ... to have them both be Charter Members of the BHOF is spot on ...

If I were a rich man, I wouldn't bet against him at an I&E show ... even now ...

He also did a great job of the Bob Gaff trademark "I've Got a Right To Sing the Blues" with the Yankee Rebels' Alumni during the early 90s too. Filling big shoes takes a big player. It's never easy to step into a role that someone else has owned, but he did it beautifully. You could say he presents a Rich Mound of tone when he plays. (yeah, I know... I'll stop)
