chaos001
And then you have every Star line.~>conner Star Mellophones: Gods Amongst Men Star Mellos.Period. Star of Indiana hands down. just thought i'd provide some references for my favorite...anecdotal evidence adds up. i remember the first time i watched them in '89 at the closing of crown imperial and just fell in love with 'em. PR had a great line last year and in 93 imo and JD Shaw is a beast! Edited March 31, 2008 by chaos001
Jeffe77
94/95 BD...the runs during the Corea piece common to both shows How can I forget? YES!! Day Danse. Great mello run along with quads. The quad line did a really cool scrape pattern to the mello run.

Triple Forte
As Sam Hazo once told me "I write the horn part last. I basically look at my composition and think 'where do i need a bad @@@ moment?' and BAM, horn part."What do you think the most difficult or impressive or beautiful parts ever written for mello have been? Mine: 2003 Phantom. opener 2004 Cavaliers. Many wonderfully placed mello moments 2005 Cavaliers. Amazing Grace on the ladders, complete with fun runs and a obscenely long unison hold to resolution. 2007 Bluecoats. The "sirens" in the closer. too bad it was out by finals. 2007 Blue Knights. That book was sweet, period. Ready, set, go. 1991 Star of Indiana.........Period !!! end of story........
mad_scotty
not one person here has mentioned the 88 scouts mellos? sacrilege!! although, as a close second, i'd put a college band of the same era, the 1989 jsu marching southerners. they did a selection from verdi's requiem as their opener that year, with a fugue-ish section led off by a mello soli. if you can find a copy of that show anywhere, the mellos were absolutely amazing. clean, powerful, in tune, just cut right through the stadium. alltime great line.
mellodramatic
Hands down, Star 91-93 Honorable mention: Cavies 05, Bluecoats 07 And in Crown 07 the mello double tonguing lick in William Tell, that you can't hear too well because of the narration.
