PhantomR
I am determined to make SCV win one. 2000 SCV. also, I completely forgot about Cadets 99. This one is very, very difficult. I'll go with SCV 2000, with Cadets 99 as a very close HM. ~>conner Edited April 15, 2008 by PhantomR
IllianaLancerContra
We had a two horse race in the 5th place poll between the '89 Cadets and the '97 Scouts. Neck and neck until the Scouts pulled away and won by a comfortable margin. This marks their third victory in the placement polls this year, sheesh. Can they win another one? What was the best 4th place show of all time? RULES -------------- *Poll will run for 24 hours (or less if I deem the round to be a blowout) **Make honorable mentions if you must, but posts with more than one vote will not count 4th Place Finishers ----------------------------- 1972 - 27th Lancers 1973 - Madison Scouts 1974 - Muchachos 1975 - 27th Lancers 1976 - Phantom Regiment 1977 - 27th Lancers 1978 - Madison Scouts 1979 - Spirit of Atlanta 1980 - Spirit of Atlanta 1981 - 27th Lancers 1982 - Phantom Regiment 1983 - Phantom Regiment 1984 - Phantom Regiment 1985 - Madison Scouts 1986 - Garfield Cadets 1987 - Blue Devils 1988 - Garfield Cadets 1989 - Blue Devils 1990a - Blue Devils 1990b - Phantom Regiment 1991 - Santa Clara Vanguard 1992 - Blue Devils 1993 - Blue Devils 1994 - The Cavaliers 1995 - Madison Scouts 1996 - The Cavaliers 1997 - Phantom Regiment 1998 - The Cavaliers 1999 - The Cadets 2000 - Santa Clara Vanguard 2001 - Santa Clara Vanguard 2002 - Santa Clara Vanguard 2003 - Phantom Regiment 2004 - The Cadets 2005 - Blue Devils 2006 - Bluecoats 2007 - Phantom Regiment 2008 Poll Winners --------------------------- 5th - '97 Madison Scouts 6th - '99 Madison Scouts 7th - '07 Bluecoats 8th - '07 Blue Knights 9th - '86 Sky Ryders 10th - '92 Velvet Knights 11th - '01 Madison Scouts 12th - '88 Sky Ryders 1980 Spirit. Loudest 4th place ever as well. 1980 was a real good year (performance wise anyway). Edited April 15, 2008 by IllianaLancerContra

DaveK
Having seen a ****load of shows over my fifty some years of watching drum corps. NOTHING I have seen has ever come close to the raw emotion and pure energy of the 95 Madison Scouts. I had the pleasure of seeing that show at Giants stadium and at the end of it my brother and I looked at each other with a WTF look and both decided we had seen something we may never see again. Someone made a roller coaster analogy in a previous post and that's exactly what it was! IMO possibly the best show ever. Honorable mention to 74 Muchachos for the emotion and energy of their performance that night in Ithaca.

ssorrell
Although I loved Phantom 2003 and Madison 1995, as both moved me like no other corps has in years, I gotta go with the corps that drew me to drum corps...1980 Spirit. Even sitting in the upper deck of Legion Field in Birmingham, you could feel the emotion of that hornline just as strongly as a fan sitting in the middle of the lower deck. That experience is what made me try out for Spirit two years later. They turned my blood blue. And, that 4th place score was the closest in score to the champion of any corps in history...a mere 8 tenths of a point away from Blue Devils' winning score. The next closest would be the Cadets in 1988, who was a full point behind Madison. Was Spirit 80 the best 4th place ever? Hard to say. Hard to compare a 1980 show to the more complex counterparts like 2003 Phantom Regiment. But, the poll asks for the best, and since Spirit tied with the top drum score and was second to BD's brass line, I think that gives them the edge.
