I was having a bit of a problem swallowing the somewhat condescending comments made about getting excited about being JUST out of Finals..
I really didn't mean to sound condescending. After all I DID say that if fighting for say the ninth, tenth or eleventh position floats your boat then "god bless 'ya". And I certainly don't mean to denigrate those corps efforts or love/enjoyment of the process. Its just that I don't start feeling the excitement until they begin to announce the third place score. And I bet if there were a realistic 2 or 3 way fight for the championship this year, there would not be nearly the hubbub over the lower tier placements. Maybe I just touched a nerve with my Empire fan fellow poster. Hopefully it was a competetive nerve!!

NOPE,no competative nerves left. been there done that. speaking of boats, how about that boat hurcs floated, during the "ben hur" show, back in the mid 90s? what a great drill move! the crowd really dug it too! oh........and i agree that for me the excitement began when they announced the third place score, but that was in the 1996 season. i dont feel denigrated in the least.you make some good points.

Not slacking... Just visiting the parents. And attending my 10-year high school reunion. And not being at a computer at all.

The scores of those "lower tier" corps are important because on DCP everybody has an equal say. Everybody's sweat is just as sweaty whether it's for the last spot in A Class Finals or an Open Class Four-Peat.

If some corps feels uninspired by the lack of worthy competition, then please accept our apology - we'll all try to provide a competitive atmosphere that is worthy of floating your boat.

The guys with the Bowties will be carrying the fight that Vince Bruni started 25 years ago to put the activity back in the hands of (1) the fans, and (2) the thousands of drum corps participants who just want a fair shot to build their corps to highest level.

I encourage all of you to stop and say hello to any member of the Empire Statesmen you see at I&E this Friday. They'll be there to soak up every ounce of excitement of this wonderful activity offers - we're all in this together.
