2008 Cadets show

Recommended Posts

If you refuse to go to a show because one particular corps will be performing, isn't that like letting the terrorists win?

:lookaround:

Sorry. Just thought this thread was in dire need of some political commentary.

And on that same note, I apologize to Cardman for my knee-jerk reply to his post. It was purely reactionary.

I don't like spinach. I tried it myself to find out. I don't need to try it again to know that. The smell is enough to make me want to run away.

Peace

Have fun on your run. :lookaround:

Maybe attending is more like supporting terrorism?

I appreciate that. Trust me, it is EXTREMELY hard for me to be civil to some people on here. It's a tug-of-war sometimes. :lookaround:

I used to get so mad reading all the anti-Cadets stuff. I would just consider the source, and say oh well, its just the same old anti-Cadets/Hopkins crowd. Although there is a crowd of folks that will not like the Cadets know matter what they do, the number of reasonable, intelligent, open-minded, civil people that do not like what the Cadets are putting on the field is growing rapidly. It is not about the fact that the Cadets are different, it is a matter of them losing their entertainment value and appeal. The subject matter of this years show is to dark and personal for this venue. People attend a Drum Corps show to be entertained and escape some of the harsh realities of life. Have the Cadets abandoned the quest to entertain the paying public? They certainly can't be surprised after last year that only a few would find this show entertaining. I love the Cadets and will continue to cheer for them this year, even if they do have me scratching my head.

you have no idea how narration affects some people...none. You either like narration...your brain can separate the narration from the show, allowing you to enjoy the music, or you a brainless, kool-aid drinking honk, and the Cadets can do no wrong for you. Some of us CAN'T SEPARATE THE NARRATION FROM THE SHOW!! It's just how our brain works. You have no idea how much I'd like to be able to separate and ignore narration from shows...ya know what? I can't. A lot of people can't.

But you are not supposed to separate the narration from the music...it IS part of the music. If that is not something you can accept, then you won't ever be able to enjoy a show with narration, and that is OK, really. You like what you like. But..it's not the fault of any corps that uses narration or other voice effects if you or whoever can't accept it.

this excuse has gotten as old and tired as the myth that the cadets are still innovative. fyi, when the cadets redefined everything everyone thought about visual packages no one else in the world was doing what they were on the field. everything about them looked and felt different, not like stale 30 year old bando cheese repackaged as "the future of the activity", and no one was telling their friends to hit the concession stands during cadets shows because they just sucked. the cadets used to be exciting, they used to be entertaining, they used to play to the audience. those days are gone, and the cadets design team seems intent on keeping those memories distant. they claim they are sticking to their guns and looking to the future but the longer they stand on pride and self satisfaction and generate shows people loathe they are looking less and less like dedicated geniuses who are faithful to their inner muse and more and more like misguided fools addicted to their own hubris. just because the cadets were innovative at some point in the past does not mean everything they do is certified gold innovation now. and innovation is only useful if the new stuff your coming up with actually works. cadets people, narration does not equate to z-pulls, no matter how desperately you want to believe your corps is still the innovation leader. give it up.

I don't see many people calling everything they do innovative. Maybe you should give up your crusade in making sure everyone knows The Cadets suck (your words, not mine). They no longer appeal to you. Honestly, as much hype as the Scouts have gotten this preseason, I saw their show online the other day and it was a yawner for me. I understand not everyone will share my feelings there, and let's face it, many will cheer for them simply because of who they are, but in the end, it is just my opinion. The big difference is, I don't see any Cadets fans in the Madison threads talking about how much they suck. It's not always about you.

But like I've said before, there are some who choose to prejudge something they have not seen and I don't think it's fair.

you've never seen or talked to Che Guevara...Pol Pot...Adolf Hitler...Fidel Castro...how do you judge them? If you pre-judge them without having seen or talked to them, it's not fair.

The fact is, you CAN pre-judge them. You have a set of moralities/ideals built into your brain. You can find out the history of the pre-mentioned bunch of fellas. You can come up with a rational, logic based decision on what they were like, even without meeting them first hand! *gasp*

With the wonderful websites like that evil vidclip site, we can actually get a bit of "firsthand" knowledge without actually "seeing". We can go to the review section of this forum, and can see that EVERYONE that has posted about the Cadets show has stated that the narration is flat out horrible....some of those posting those reviews actually like narration, too.

When you say that an adult can't make a rational decision based on history, and some vidclip watching, you are being condescending, and saying we aren't smart enough to make a grownup decision like knowing what a good drum corps show is...

Sure. If the majority of the corps at the show were incorporating narration. But we have people who won't go because of ONE corps. Countless threads over ONE corps.

Just shocks me to think that people would forego watching an activity they proclaim to hold so dear because of a single corps.

Kinda' gives the Cadets and Hopkins more credit than they're worth IMO.
