Just a note about the Cadets

Recommended Posts

I love Cadets '89, '90, '91, '92, '93 and 2000 (Can't remember '94-'99 off the top of my head).

Didn't see that coming, did you?

Actually, I'm not surprised. I figured out that most people love Cadets, but they just hate the direction. I'm over it. Doesn't mean I won't stop debating though.

And I just wish that a week could go by without some new person giving us this same heartfelt little speech as if it has not already been done 4236 times this year alone. It should almost be a contest like a "Spot Waldo" event. I am sure I could do a search and find at least a dozen of these same types of posts without trying too hard.

To be fair, the exact same thing can be said for the responses to those comments. Both sides are equally guilty, and the argument will never stop until everyone stops talking about it.

maybe you should just concenstrate on the viagra since you have no experience here

Real mature. A guy with 6 posts telling a guy with 675 posts that he has no experience here. Not only that, but you said this after starting a topic with this "O let's be nice and fair and love The Cadets again whether we like what they're doing or not give peace a chance" kind of post.

Honestly, The Cadets are?/were my favorite corps. Since the tech for our snareline in '92 marched Cadets for 3 years, and after having him beat us down all summer, we jokingly called ourselves "The Cadets of North Canton, Ohio."

I think my reaction to the Cadets show last year, after not seeing drum corps for a few years, was like seeing your school colors being changed to Fuschia and Electric Liliac. It made me want to throw up in my mouth when I saw Cadets at Quarters. And I got really, really angry...

But hey, George can do what he wants to do. And, since the staff didn't leave in droves last year, I guess they're complicit. I just wish the excellent performances only the Cadets can give weren't overshadowed by all the other stuff.

I love the cadets percussion, brass, and colorguard, but I will continue to bash them for their distracting commentary that is really unecessary. As fans we have the right to express our opinion, and the cadets should now how we feel.

Can you be more specific please? Is it GH you will bash; is it the performers you will bash, or the organization as a whole?

if we did not try new things would we have cell phones, ice makers, computers, navagiation systmens. i think that you get the idea. i beleive that is is a nice change

Cell phones, ice makers, computers and navagation sytems were all good ideas that would not have lasted otherwise. The Cadets attempts at narration have not been well done and really sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the level of excellence achieved by the corps proper. The majority of criticism regarding the Cadets use of narration is simply because the narration is not well thought out and equally poor in execution. I have been a fan of the Cadets for 24 years and have defended them many times through the years, however, I can not defend their current design choices anymore. The narration just flat out does not work and really hurts the image of this corps. Hopkins is a good guy and means well but I can't defend him on the narration issue. He is making a terrible mistake by discounting the majority opinion regarding narration! The Cadets fan base is shrinking with every performance and soon the talent level they have to pick from will diminish!

Certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion, however a little tact goes a long way. That goes for both sides of the debate.

Just because you CAN give your opinion doesn't mean you always SHOULD say exactly what you are thinking.

if we did not try new things we also wouldn't have land mines, aids, and heroin. what sort of aimless happy go lucky personality does it take to assume change=good? change is just change, and most new ideas are bad. attempting change is justified by the few ideas that are worthy and good, but anyone with the sense god gave a 2 year old has figured out by now that most change ends up not working out, in the end, and that change for change sakes is the motto of the untethered soul who wanders constantly, never growing roots, and never building anything of substance.
