ItsOnTheField
Drum Corps > BOALower Div III... ahem... "Open Class > 1st place BOA band You REALLY have no clue if you think this is true. You are basically saying that the low end of Div III/Open Class would win Grand Nationals?!
ItsOnTheField
Top BOA bands are 20% of the activity??? Maybe 1%. In my state, we probably have around 200 high school bands or so. Maybe 1 or 2 even compete in BOA, and most dont do very well. Yes, 20% of ALL marching bands in the country. Not just the ones that attend BOA. Kansan
Maybe in your experience. "A total let down"...im sorry for your high school background.Granted the number of marching bands way outnumbers the number of corps, but in reality, the top BOA bands only really represent about 20% of the activity. The rest really is sub-par. So I can understand most peoples perception on band vs. corps if they've never been apart of the 20% within BOA. Don't be sorry for my High School background. Olathe South had a cutting edge marchng program in the '80s. Due to Kansas rules we were not allowed to accept scores just ratings. Our band had a lot of talent and some of us went on to march in the Hutchinson Sky Ryders. Since I marched Drum Corps between High School and College, I went back to a really pitiful small University Band program. We had fun but the program was not so good. I did go back and forth between winter camps and high school band and noticed the difference of intensity of rehearsals though. So in comparison, my worst experience was University Band, Second best was High School and Drum Corps was hands down he most fun and rewarding. BozzlyB
Yes, 20% of ALL marching bands in the country. Not just the ones that attend BOA. That's rediculous. 20% of all bands in the country would be like 500 bands.
camel lips
DCI or BOA which is better?
MikeD
Have you ever marched DCI and then gone back to a band program? It's a total let down. The rehearsal level in DCI is way up in the stratusphere compaired to even a top notch band. Most everyone dreams about going from band to Drum Corps not the other way around. Now for the uninitiated, band is a fun program until you taste the "forbidden fruit" of Drum Corps. Do you think the same thing about being in all-state band versus your local HS concert band? IMO that is part of an attitude that leads to HS directors not liking their members to do drum corps. If that IS your true feeling about band after marching corps, it will come through, even if you attempt to mask it.
salad315
Yes, 20% of ALL marching bands in the country. Not just the ones that attend BOA. So let me get this straight. You are saying, and saying again, that top BOA bands represent 20% of the bands in the country. I think that less than 5% of bands in the country even go to a single BOA regional, so this statistic is fairly impossible....
SynthLine09
Its more like 20, not 20%
