GGarrett
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cavaliers... I've always loved their uniform; it gives them a certain sense of authority. The new Blue Devils uniform is cool looking, too. Look again... 12) Hammes Indians 1) I'm wacky for the khaki too! 27th Lancers, the whole corps, from the horn line, to the color guards to the old drum line wearing the kilts! It was very hard not to put 27th in my top 12 uni's... I especially loved '83. But 27 always had a great uniform, even the drumline with the kilts some years, some years not...LOL
TennTux
Was there that much of a difference? Of course.... *I* was wearing one in the "late 60's"...
BAC oboist
Of course....*I* was wearing one in the "late 60's"... The BAC uniform I wore in the early '90s looked, felt, and smelled like it had been worn in the late '60s. I was told to rub toothpaste into all the white piping to get rid of the hue, before the next inspection. BTW - that doesn't work. Still ... I would not have worn any other than the black and red. Northern Thunder
Those Hamm's Indians (St. Paul, Minnesota) were the first corps I ever saw. They used to come to my hometown for the 4th of July parade, when I was 5 or 6 years-old. According to the Drum Corps Book Of World Records, which was published back in the late 1970s, the Hamm's Indian uniform jackets (which were fully beaded, with 400 beads per sqare inch) cost $400.00 each, and the Indian head dresses were $300.00 each. And that was the price in the late 1950s!! The first jackets were made in 1929, and it took until 1950 to complete the set. Bossop
In the early 1960's, St. Rocco's of Brooklyn had these fantastic turquoise cadet uniforms that were really striking. The rumor circulating was that they were financed by the Mafia. I never heard anyone deny it, but perhaps it's just part of drum corps lore. bill
They came to a show in my hometown and asked if they could borrow a few of our instruments to perform as they had run out of room on their truck to bring all their own; reason: it was either bring all of their instruments and leave the beer off the truck or leave some instruments behind. When looking inside their truck it was obviously the "beer vote" won. My understanding was their unis were made out of actual buckskins; thus hot as hell. MikeD
Holy Name, of course. However, as a kids growing up, my favorite was the "Gold and Black of Blessed Sac"...I LOVED their uniform! BS Drumline When I was deciding whether to join BS or Garfield after the 69 season, I would visit rehearsals of both corps. Bobby Thompson put me to work building the double tenors you see...they were single drums we stripped down to the wood shells, covered with that great BS tiger stripe, and then built back up into double tenors...that is what I would have played if I had chosen BS over Garfield. My favorite corps growing up through the 60's.
