NR_Ohiobando
Since DCI corps have minors in them I doubt you'd get away with it. DCA corps also have a mix of legal adults and minors. Sorry, your grand plan to save drum corps has failed. ;) But there might be room for a BLAST! version of "Oh, Calcutta!" DCI has changed rules before (instrumentation, corps size), why not the age? Why not make DCI only 18 and up? Perhaps even move the top age up to 26 to make the age range the same.
TrumpetJ
I'm curious. One of the arguments I've heard regarding synths is that since we are an art form, there's no reason to keep things out of drum corps if they want to use them. So what about allowing nudity? Technically people pay money to see performances and DCI is their own private organization, so I'm not sure it would be against the law. Obviously there would people against it, and people who wouldn't mind it. Only the corps that wanted to use it would use it, maybe 1 or 2 a season. If it is technically against the law since most of the competitions are outdoors, lets assume that it is allowed as a design similar to how nude sculptures are commonly allowed in public viewing. (perhaps on a flag or something?) (this isn't necessarily an argument for/against ww's, electronics, etc. I'm really just curious what people would think, especially those so willing to allow new things in DCI.) NR_Ohiobando
But would it really project to the box? Or would it solely be directed at the on field judges? Obviously there would be auditions to make sure the effect would project well into the pressbox.
Liam
Interesting question. I hope that folks here can discuss this in the spirit in which it is offered. There was a question earlier today on another thread about what would be an uncrossable line for those who are okay with electronics and even woodwinds. Everyone must have line somewhere -- hence the Aristocrats joke, which basically purposefully pushes and pushes in different directions until it finds the particular line that shocks the particular listener. Again, I hope that this topic remains honest and above board. I think it's a good (if unorthodox) question. For me -- I have no problem being in favor of some changes and not others. It's not about being for or against "change". It's about being for or against specific changes. Nudity in performances as you posit would be a rule I would not be in favor of in this activity. ContraRich77
If we lived in a reality where such a notion would be even remotely acceptable, I'd nominate the Phantom Regiment colorguard the first test case any day of the week and twice on Sunday. GGarrett
There are just some sections of a corps that I just really wouldn't want to see nude. Why does an image of a plumber under my sink come to mind here, and make me throw up a little?
drumcorpsfan4567
Even if people would want it to happen, and obviously it would never fly, there would just be too many obstacles. What happens when it comes to corps pics going out all over the internet? ...yeah. Does that make jolesch a porn site? Who in their right mind would perform naked in front of 20,000 people anyway, on top of knowing that their body could very well be plastered all over the internet? Yikes... Why does an image of a plumber under my sink come to mind here, and make me throw up a little? Right -- of course everyone immediately thought of Phantom's color guard. But before we go writing up proposals for the voting caucus, maybe we should all picture the contra line of the next Alumni Corps to perform at Finals.
