GotaLife
Rumour has it that the Blue Saints from Sudbury, Ontario has a Deaf Drum Major. This is a first in drum Corps history, not only can this guy Conduct, he is also an amazing drummer from what I hear! Way to go Blue Saints, I hope this will be a great year for you. Be Proud and carry on the tradition for many years to come.
MetalTones2012
I'm good friends with this guy, it's true he's deaf and conducting. He's really excited about it too!

That could be a very big advantage, as you call the tempo and keep it there by watching the center snare's feet or sticking. No listening to off tempos or phasing, just keeping the beat together. Any idea of the percentage of hearing loss. PS - #### amazing in any case.
bluecoats88
in 1986 our 6th bass was deaf. Made it interesting during practice when the corps woiuld stop playing and if he didn't see the cutoff he would continue until someone let him know we weren't playing anymore.

rayfallon
Right on!!! Always a big fan of the Blue Saints. I could name a few drum majors that I assumed were deaf. I know they never heard a word I said to them at rehearsals...
84BDsop
I could name a few drum majors that I assumed were deaf. I know they never heard a word I said to them at rehearsals... The same could be said of many members!!! in 1986 our 6th bass was deaf. Made it interesting during practice when the corps woiuld stop playing and if he didn't see the cutoff he would continue until someone let him know we weren't playing anymore. But it probably made it easier to hear how well he knew his parts! BD had a deaf soprano player in 82...not stone deaf, but from what I've been told, she had a high percentage of loss.
