2000Cadet
except that the next night Crown went out and lost to the Cadets by half a point and cadets had lost to BD by one and a half points at allentown. So I can't take the crown score at allentown seriously in relation to BD. They should have been down about a point lower at Allentown which would put them right with cadets and cavaliers where they've been all year. And I think this is the second time this season where Crown's score was "inflated" if you will, only to go down the next night. I don't remember exactly what show it was, but I remember their score was pretty high and then it came down. So I think we'll get a better feel for the placements tomorrow night or Friday. DrumJunkie
I know they placed low, but I don't think it was that low. (Searching for the recap now.)Ah, found it over in RAMD: DCI World Championship Finals Birmingham, AL August 16, 1980 M&M Per Brass GE GE GE GE total total total M&M Per Brs total T&P Score 1. Blue Devils 21.50 16.90 23.20 9.8 9.4 9.9 29.1 0.1 90.60 2. 27th Lancers 21.35 18.55 21.15 9.9 9.9 9.4 29.2 0.0 90.25 3. Bridgemen 20.50 19.20 21.65 9.5 9.8 9.6 28.9 0.2 90.05 4. Spirit 20.25 19.20 22.65 9.3 9.3 9.3 27.9 0.4 89.80 5. Phantom 22.00 17.65 21.30 9.6 9.1 9.1 27.8 0.3 88.45 6. Madison 20.25 16.90 22.20 9.2 9.3 9.5 28.0 0.3 87.05 7. SCV 20.85 16.70 20.55 9.5 9.0 9.0 27.5 0.0 85.60 8. Crossmen 17.50 17.35 20.55 9.0 9.2 8.6 26.8 0.3 81.90 9. Cavaliers 17.05 15.65 19.30 8.9 8.7 8.4 26.0 0.6 77.40 10. Garfield 15.65 15.60 19.30 8.6 8.6 8.8 26.0 0.1 76.45 11. North Star 15.65 15.75 18.05 8.4 8.3 8.1 24.8 0.2 74.05 12. Guardsmen 14.20 14.15 19.85 8.0 8.5 8.5 25.0 0.3 72.90 So BD won the championship in 1980, placing sixth in the percussion caption (in a tie with Madison). thanks for dion the research and answerin my question. but yeah just cant see scv breakin top 5 with their percussion being out of the top 5 and possibly 6. hope the best for them though and that they have an good performance. still see top five as being crown, cadets, devils, cavies, and then scv
I play the baritone good
Statistically speaking, it's just not going to happen. Last year BD had a couple captions that weren't the tops... this year not so much. They have NO WEAKNESSES. In which captions will Crown beat BD? They might get a couple minors, but I just don't see them doing enough damage to win. Who knows, though. I'm super pumped for tomorrow night. DrumJunkie
I see them winning GE and Brass. Just takes the right performance with the right emotional tug on the judges. they also finished ahead of blue devils in music ensemble at atlanta. so its def possible for them to squeeze out a few captions. but like you said it just takes the right performance and emotional pull on the judges. def anxious to see how everything shakes out
soccerguy315
It is IMPOSSIBLE for Crown to win this year because they haven't finished top 3 before. Right? Who is with me???

CrownFan4ever
Oh man, 3rd would not be bad for Crown at all.And for Bluecoats to get above 6th, who do you expect them to beat? I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, I mean really... who do YOU think they'll overcome to get into the top 5? They MIGHT be able to pull ahead of SCV, I agree on what bradrick said about it. I think it all depends on the GE of the shows. I am not saying Bluecoats will pass SCV..... they both have amazing shows but Bluecoats might have a chance to pull ahead of SCV. marchedmanymoonsago
It appears the Bluecoats are surging a little right at the end. And SCV didn't get a score at their last show due to the much discussed illness/exhibition. So there is a bit of a wild card in play here. Editing to add this: Now all that being said - I fully believe that this SCV corps is fully capable of having one of those fabled "Golden Shows" and placing as high as 3rd. GO SCV!! Luv SCV this year and the kids are doing a great job. Aside from the score...guard in large sweeping skirts, ballet-theme, scatter drill into a company front, and classy exit off the back side-line... but it's all been done before. ALL of it. Yes, App Spring has been done by many corps over the decades, but no one can deny the close similarities of this year's SCV show to Garfield Cadets 1987 Championship show. Is it a coincidence that the designer for the SCV production this year also marched Garfield 1987? I'd love to give credit where credit is due, so thank you Garfield.
