soccerguy315
I generally think there are 2-3 championship quality shows every year... Examples: 2008: Phantom, Blue Devils, Cavaliers 2007: Blue Devils, Cadets 2006: Cavaliers, Phantom 2005: Cadets (might be the only one this year?) so... my first question is: Do you agree that there are 2-3 championship level shows every year? and the followup: Are there 5 shows at this level this year? Crown/Cadets/BD/Cavies/SCV, or do you think that after finals, it will be clear that all of them were not championship level?
ouooga
I totally agree. There have been several shows that deserved a World Championship, but were just unlucky enough to be in the same year as a show that was just a little bit better. I'd definitely include Blue Devils 04, SCV 04, Phantom 89 and Star 93 to that list too, and probably the entire top 5 of this year too (minus the winner of course). Edited because I forgot SCV 04 Edited August 5, 2009 by ouooga
I play the baritone good
BD should be on the '06 list as well, IMO.

MikeN
I agree - I think there are 5 this year and that's above the average. Mike
NakedEye
Yes. Any of these 5 could do it if the stars align. And they're all completely different. Saturday will not be one of those nights when it is "fun" to be a judge.
OrlandoContraAlum
Just off the top of my head, the only other year that comes close to this amount of quality at the top is 1980, where you had BD, 27, Bridgemen and Spirit all within .8 of each other (and this was in the tic era). All were very, very good shows.
MikeN
Just for discussion's sake, my list of "championship-quality" shows for this decade - 2008 - Phantom, BD, Cavaliers 2007 - BD, Cadets 2006 - Cavaliers, Phantom, BD 2005 - Cadets 2004 - Cavaliers, BD, SCV 2003 - BD, Cavaliers 2002 - Cavaliers, BD 2001 - Cavaliers 2000 - Cadets, Cavaliers, BD, SCV Mike

I'd add Cadets to 2003 & 2001, and take Blue Devils away from 2002. You could probably add Blue Devils to 2001, but I'm not 100% on it.
