What killed drum corps in Canada?

Recommended Posts

And of course we should not forget the Kiwanis Kavaliers.

I still remember some of the absolutely amazing shows from L'Academie Musicale and Les Etoiles, just a completely unique approach to drum corps, an approach that I wish was still around. Some of those shows are still amazing -- and L'Academie will always have the highest score ever by a D III corps, the 1995 show. And who can ever forget the L'Insolite trick? Or the Ventures actually marching in skirts (1992 if I remember correctly) while playing the Rite of Spring, great show. Just a whole different approach that seems to be missing now.

I blame Canada, with all their beady little eyes and flapping heads so full of lies. It seems everything's gone wrong since Canada came along, with all their hockey hullabaloo and that ##### Anne Murray, too. I blame Canada. They're not even a real country anyway.

I can remember when Canadian corps' were all over the place. In fact if it weren't for them DCI today would be called "Drum Corps National" and that's no ****. It's also why Canadian corps aren't allowed to compete in DCI's "international division". It's true mates....it's true.

actually, according to Don Warren, the name came about because they thought Drum Corps National sounded flaky. They choose DCI regardless of the Canada corps of the time, as VFW was set up for American corps.

We blame Anne Murray too.

We are the 53rd state.

We got the beady eyes fixed for free!

I really miss Les Etoiles and their crazy spinning drummers and high energy shows, even if they did bump us (Pioneer) out of semis in 98 after we'd been beating them all season.

Maybe Mike Boo should chime in on this one. I believe he was there at the time.

I think the title should read "What killed Division 2/3 - Open Class - ClassA/A60"

Most Canadian Corps have been in these classes and such as the demise of them we see the decline in Canadian corps.

Not too long ago (1995) there were 41 corps in Division 3 prelims at DCI Worlds and another handful in Division 2 prelims. This year - 19 total.

On a different note, I know Canadians (and quite a few) who are marching World in Bluecoats, Boston, Cadets, and Phantom (at least)

Socialism
The healthcare system ?

Whether or not you're kidding, you are more than partially correct. The country is so highly taxed. Even without a real military, their health care system sucks away any possible market system.

Considering the US political climate today, if anyone could invade Canada, now would be the time.
