Jim White
St Joe's of Batavia is looking for a second "concert number" to complete its 20 th anniversary show. We will continue using the concert that we used in the late 60's "Hey Big Spender", but want to put one more very crowd friendly piece in the puzzle.St Joes has been known to salute some of the corps we competed against at that time, respectfully, by playing pieces that were well known to those corps. Any Ideas? Donny I remember the Senior Appleknockers doing a killer arrangement of Melancoly Rhapsody with Ace Peterson. I think it was arrranged by Jack Bullock. The Shortsville Shamrocks did a Jack Bullock arrangement of Duke Ellington's "Satin Doll" featuring a sextet doing the bridge. Always loved that tune. cabalumnidrummer
How about 27th's Chicago medley from 1971: "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" and "Beginnings." One of the all-time best junior corps concerts, IMHO. And now with Light Brigade gone, it would be a nice tribute. If you want to go back even further: St. Catherine's Queensmen's "Tin Roof Blues." with the baritone solo that made Bill Hightower famous -- or was it the other way around?
