shostahoosier
Why not propose a judging tweak next off-season to demand that synth "padding" and/or electronics/amplification issues are noted (and scored as as such, just as a blown attack or release would be)?Surely, there has to be some sort of support for that at the instructor level? ...because we would hear that regulation of "progress" would hurt the artists ability to be creative
shostahoosier
Nope. '08 was 12. I remember they had 14 contras back in 96...they even had a t-shirt for it!
trumpetcam
Size isn't everything....I think I'll wait and see for myself before making any judgments. Of course not, notice I said "perception". Whether we like it or not, this rules DCI much of the time. If corps A was great last year, perception gives them a higher first score with the judges. the same is true on the flipside of the equation. No doubt that people seeing Regiment with 8 contras will generate a negative perception about their hornline, no matter how great they sound. It's the nature of our activity... I don't really care as I think 8-12 is more than enough for a 76-80 piece hornline. I think all those points have been made by yourself and others in earlier posts. I know and I agree with you. 8 does look bad for them. I just don't want to put ideas into anyone's head by drawing unnecessary attention to it. contrajedi8
God, I hope not.Think of the opening of Regiment 96--It's that opening tuba feature that makes it totally badda**. Played by the top 4 players on the front sideline. The rest were out back marching and didn't come in until 30 seconds in.
Lance
a big, lush bottom sound can emphasize qualities in many different kinds of music. i'd posit that it can even be used to convey "luminescense" or "lightness" effectively.
