DanjrusMcRynky
Well if we're going to Detroit, DCI missed their opportunity...they could have just BOUGHT the Silverdome: http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/investin...or-58/19243225/ "The town of Pontiac, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, sold the 80,300-seat Silverdome on Monday, along with 127 acres of nearby land. The massive stadium complex, which once hosted the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Pistons, and the Michigan Panthers, cost more than $55 million to build in 1975. Its selling price in 2009? $583,000." combia1
Lots of talk about how this wouldn't have been a problem if the show would have been in a dome. Not so sure about that. Yeah, there wouldn't have been rain delays, but the two tornado warnings where we all had to go into the restrooms? That would have happened in a dome as well. So it is quite possible that if the delays were long enough, this show could have gotten canceled even if it were in a dome.
violet
From one of our local papers and weather dudes: "It was classic Kansas weather, meteorologist Paul Douglas said. "We had one super-cell thunderstorm track all the way from near Long Prairie all the way to Watertown, just southwest of the Twin Cities. That's typical for Wichita, a little odd for Minnesota in mid-July," he said." As far as moving to the arena, not sure if U of M would be cool for that, even as a stand-and-blow. They recently replaced the main floor, and I'm also not strictly certain the building has air conditioning.
mobrien
Well if we're going to Detroit, DCI missed their opportunity...they could have just BOUGHT the Silverdome: DCI rented it once, in 1976, and that was enough for those of us who performed there. Hard to say which was scarier - the sound quality in the stadium, or the housing sites they found. Edited July 18, 2010 by mobrien

A dollar from 583,000 of us? That would have been easy. But what's the upkeep and taxes on that place? It would have been a money pit. Well at least the Sllverdome stadium there in Pontiac sold last year for more ($583,000) than today's market value for the city of Detroit. Northern Thunder
There were many indoor concerts in the area last night that had to be uprooted to take shelter during the tornado warning. A dome would not have mattered. When it comes to tornadoes, you find shelter! The show can't go on, no matter what type of facility it's in. (Unless it's in an underground stadium, which I haven't found yet.) Edited July 18, 2010 by Northern Thunder

Still would have had corps in warm-up areas, etc. I'm guessing a tornado would impact the torso stretching exercises. And I'm guessing a tuba is a pretty good conductor of electricity. I know there are a lot of smart comments on here about the rain delay at the Georgia Dome a few years ago. Yes, it looked like rapids indoors in section 319. But even before the pipe burst, the rain was so loud on the roof that you couldn't hear anything from the corps. I think this one would have been a bust either way.
