I love how yall bashed on Jason for a similar view a lot of people had... 'this is no different than what we saw (and, for many of us, didnt like) in their judged performance'

Also to say he shouldnt say it because its supposed to be a 'pro bd thread'? Get real. The topic to me seemed clearly baiting 'those who left', ie, those who werent fans of the show. What do you expect when you do that? Even if it werent, this is an open discussion board. You dont get to just define little kingdoms where a thread is 'sunshine and roses' for one group or another.

As for mediabox... maybe BD should stick with the fan network or work with other corps to improve its capabilities, as opposed to bailing on the fan network (that they themselves were part of selling!) and taking content that would typically be put up on there and putting it on their own service. It is much better for the activity to have a one stop shop for everything drum corps than to balkanize things.

Ah yes..the ever present "socialism" of drum corps. BD is (as they always have) "showing" the other corps the way ahead. The reality is, it's like herding cats...that's what's #### frustrating. I will tell you this...I heard (first person) the leadership of BD following 2008 finals, suggest that they were available to help anyone who'll listen, the way to build their programs and organization. So, you just move forward and not wait around for the rest of the "commune" to get it.

Ah yes..the ever present "socialism" of drum corps.

Let's not get too wrapped up in hyperbole . . .DCI is a "fraternity".

Not socialism.

From the DCI Constitution:

"This organization more than most enterprise requires the utmost in

trust and good will among its members. Deliberations and decisions

must be made on the basis of what is good for the Drum and Bugle Corps

movement rather than for the gain of a few corps. If this

organization operates in a statesmanlike manner it can be become the

most useful moving force in the Drum and Bugle Corps world. But if it

reverts to the partisan policies and personal innuendos which have so

often marred the Drum and Bugle Corps scene in the past, this

organization will destroy itself and bring discredit to all Drum and

Bugle Corps. May the members of this organization always be equal to

the responsibility of the membership.

BTW, I think that the OP was promoting the video as opposed to baiting... Just saying.

Funny how we do lose perspective...

There is so much argument over taste or preference, and sharp criticism viewed under a microscope of detail largely unnoticed by pretty much the rest of the known universe we completely discount, rather than celebrate, just how incredibly unique these individuals are in the context of average of youth in an increasingly apathetic generation.

In the years since I have participated in this activity, youth have become increasingly distracted by a much more fragmented and progressively superficial culture, yet the level of excellence in performance an ability to push boundaries of human achievement has increased exponentially.

What these youth have achieved in the context of current culture is beyond impressive. The level of ability, confidence and technical skill is far beyond that of the same organization in my youth, yet they face a level of distraction and dilution of attention and a distortion of priority that should naturally cause a lower, not higher level of achievement.

Simply put, these youth (all current performers, not just BD) are achieving something to be marveled, not shredded. Why not take a few steps back to view the larger picture, to appreciate the brilliance in full context, rather than viewing so closely you get too caught up seemingly incoherent brush strokes?

Great post. Albeit, DCP doesn't take kindly to things put in perspective.

It's not BD's job to improve other corps, no matter what the "constitution" says, and no matter how much a user gets scolded for pointing it out. It's just one more way for haters to crow. The avenues are limitless, evidently.

Anyhoo, thanks for the link. Wish I could've been at finals to see BD's dominance culminate.

Best of luck to other corps catching up to their excellence next year!
